Chapter 17: A Day with Loki

Madilyn had been feeling increasingly unwell over the past few days, her energy levels plummeting and nausea becoming a constant companion. Despite her attempts to hide her symptoms, it was becoming harder to ignore. Thor had been attentive and caring, his concern evident in every gesture.

One night, as they lay in bed, the room softly illuminated by the glow of Asgardian crystal orbs, Madilyn felt a wave of nausea wash over her. She bolted upright, clutching her stomach.

"Madilyn?" Thor's voice was thick with worry as he sat up beside her.

"I need to go to the bathroom," she managed to say before rushing out of the room. Thor followed her, his concern deepening as he heard her retching in the bathroom.

Madilyn leaned over the sink, her body trembling as she tried to compose herself. Thor was by her side in an instant, gently rubbing her back.

"I'm so sorry," she whispered, tears stinging her eyes.

"Don't apologize," Thor said softly, his voice soothing. "We'll get through this."

After a few more minutes, Madilyn straightened up, her face pale and her body exhausted. Thor helped her back to bed, wrapping her in a comforting embrace.

"Try to get some rest," he murmured, kissing the top of her head. "We'll figure this out."

The next morning, Thor had to leave on a mission with the rest of the Avengers. He was reluctant to leave Madilyn, but she insisted he go, assuring him she would be fine.

"I'll be here when you get back," she promised, her smile weak but genuine.

Thor nodded, his heart heavy with concern. "I love you, Madilyn."

"I love you too," she replied, squeezing his hand.

As the Avengers departed, Madilyn found herself alone in the tower, her thoughts and worries swirling. She decided to spend the day with Loki, knowing that his presence, surprisingly, brought her comfort.

Loki was restricted to one floor, a precautionary measure to ensure he didn't cause any mischief. Despite his reputation, Loki had always been kind to Madilyn, and she had grown fond of him.

She made her way to Loki's quarters, knocking lightly on the door. It opened to reveal Loki, dressed in his usual dark attire, his expression one of mild curiosity.

"Madilyn," he greeted, a rare genuine smile gracing his lips. "What brings you here?"

"I thought we could spend some time together," she said, her voice still weak.

Loki's eyes softened with concern. "Are you feeling alright?"

"I've been better," she admitted, stepping inside. "But I think some company might help."

Loki nodded, leading her to a comfortable seating area. "Sit down. I'll make us some tea."

Madilyn watched as Loki moved with surprising grace and efficiency, preparing a pot of tea. He handed her a steaming cup, and she took it gratefully.

"Thank you, Loki," she said, taking a sip. The warmth of the tea was soothing, easing her discomfort.

They spent the morning talking, Loki sharing stories of Asgard and his many adventures. Madilyn found herself laughing more than she had in days, her spirits lifting in his company. Loki had a way of making her feel at ease, his sharp wit and charm a welcome distraction from her worries.

As the day wore on, they moved to the kitchen, deciding to cook together. Loki was surprisingly adept in the kitchen, and they found themselves working in harmony, laughing and teasing each other as they prepared a meal.

"You know, you're the only person I can truly tolerate in this place," Loki remarked, his tone half-joking.

Madilyn smiled, feeling a warmth in her heart. "And you're not as bad as everyone thinks, Loki. You're actually... nice."

Loki raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. "Don't let anyone else hear you say that. I have a reputation to uphold."

As they finished cooking, they sat down to eat, the meal simple but delicious. Loki's demeanor remained warm and friendly, and Madilyn felt grateful for his presence.

That evening, as they cleaned up, Thor's absence was keenly felt, but Madilyn knew she had found a friend in Loki. He was different with her, more open and less guarded, and she cherished their bond.

Later, as they settled in the living room with cups of tea, Loki looked at her with a rare seriousness. "Madilyn, if you ever need anything, you can come to me. I will always be here for you."

Touched by his sincerity, Madilyn reached out and squeezed his hand. "Thank you, Loki. That means a lot to me."

As the night drew to a close, Madilyn felt a sense of peace she hadn't felt in a long time. Loki had become a surprising ally, and she knew she could count on him.

When Thor returned later that night, he found Madilyn in their room, her expression more relaxed than it had been in days.

"How was your day?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.

"It was good," Madilyn replied, a small smile playing on her lips. "Loki and I had a nice day together."

Thor raised an eyebrow, a hint of surprise in his eyes. "Loki?"

Madilyn nodded. "He's not so bad, you know. He was really kind to me."

Thor smiled, relief washing over him. "I'm glad to hear that."

As they settled into bed, Madilyn felt safe and happy. She laid her head on Thor's chest and drifted off to sleep.
