Chapter 40:Bandage

Thor stormed into the tower, his footsteps echoing angrily in the grand foyer. The Avengers, scattered around the common area, paused in their activities, sensing the tension radiating from the usually composed Asgardian. Millie, playing with her toys nearby, looked up curiously at her father's stern expression.

Ignoring the greetings and concerned glances from his teammates, Thor marched straight to the elevator, his jaw clenched with barely contained fury. Madilyn and Loki exchanged worried looks, silently communicating their guilt over the situation that had unfolded during their mission.

Natasha, ever observant, approached Madilyn cautiously. "What happened out there?" she asked quietly, concern etched in her voice.

Madilyn bit her lip, struggling with her emotions. "It's... complicated," she murmured, her gaze flickering to where Thor had disappeared.

Steve stepped forward, his brow furrowed with worry. "We need to talk," he said firmly, gesturing for Madilyn and Loki to follow him to a quieter corner of the room.

Meanwhile, in his room, Thor paced back and forth, grappling with a tumult of emotions. Betrayal and hurt gnawed at him, mixed with a deep sense of disappointment. How could Madilyn and Loki have kept this from him? His mind raced with unanswered questions, each one intensifying his frustration.

Downstairs, Steve faced Madilyn and Loki, his expression serious. "Thor deserves to know the truth," he insisted, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Loki nodded solemnly, guilt etched on his features. "I know," he admitted quietly. "But he needs time to cool off."

Madilyn nodded in agreement, her shoulders sagging with weariness. "I'll talk to him," she offered reluctantly. "I owe him that much."

As Madilyn made her way to Thor's room, uncertainty and apprehension weighed heavily on her. She knocked softly on the door, waiting for a response. When none came, she pushed the door open slowly, finding Thor standing by the window, his back to her.

"Thor," she began tentatively, her voice barely above a whisper.

Thor turned to face her, his expression unreadable. "Why didn't you tell me?" he demanded, his voice rough with emotion.

Madilyn took a deep breath, meeting his gaze head-on. "I was scared," she admitted quietly. "I didn't want to hurt you."

Thor sighed heavily, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "You should have trusted me," he said finally, his tone a mixture of hurt and resignation.

"I know," Madilyn replied softly, tears welling up in her eyes. "I'm sorry."

Thor crossed the room in a few long strides, pulling her into a tight embrace. "I don't know how to fix this," he confessed, his voice breaking slightly.

Madilyn rested her head against his chest, feeling the weight of their shared turmoil. "We'll figure it out," she promised, her voice steady despite the tears.

Madilyn felt Thor's grip loosen as he released her abruptly. The tension in the room was palpable, the air heavy with unspoken words and raw emotions. She took a step back, her heart sinking with the weight of his rejection.

"I need some time," Thor muttered, his voice strained and distant. He turned away from her, unable to meet her gaze.

Madilyn stood there, feeling the sting of his withdrawal. She wanted to reach out, to plead with him to understand, but she knew he needed space. With a heavy heart, she nodded silently and left the room, closing the door softly behind her.

Outside, the rest of the team watched with concern, their expressions reflecting the gravity of the situation. Natasha approached Madilyn quietly, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Give him time," she offered gently.

Madilyn nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "I just hope he can forgive me," she whispered, her voice wavering with emotion.

Steve stepped forward, his expression sympathetic. "We'll support you, no matter what," he reassured her, his tone firm and reassuring.

As they stood together in the hallway, uncertainty hung in the air. Madilyn knew that repairing the rift with Thor wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to do whatever it took to make things right.
