Chapter 34: Reunion and Recovery
Madilyn paced nervously in the common area of Stark Tower, anxiously awaiting Thor's return. It had been weeks since he left on a dangerous mission, and every passing day had felt like an eternity. Millie clung to her side, sensing her mother's unease.
Finally, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the hallway, and the familiar sight of Thor limping into view brought a rush of relief and worry. His armor was battered and scorched, and he leaned heavily on Natasha's shoulder for support. Madilyn rushed forward, heart pounding with concern.
"Thor!" she exclaimed, tears welling up in her eyes as she embraced him gently, careful of his injuries.
Thor managed a weak smile, though pain flickered across his features. "I'm home," he murmured, holding Madilyn close. Millie, sensing her father's pain, wrapped her tiny arms around his leg, her eyes wide with concern.
Natasha stepped forward, her expression grave as she assessed Thor's condition. "He needs medical attention," she stated firmly, guiding Thor towards the medical bay. Madilyn followed closely behind, her heart heavy with worry.
In the medical bay, Bruce Banner and Helen Cho worked quickly to assess and treat Thor's injuries. Madilyn stood by anxiously, holding Millie's hand as they watched the medical team go to work. Thor winced occasionally but remained stoic, his gaze never leaving Madilyn and Millie.
After what felt like an eternity, Bruce finally stepped back with a sigh of relief. "He'll be okay," he announced, his voice tinged with fatigue. "He needs rest and time to heal, but he'll recover."
Madilyn let out a shaky breath, feeling the weight of worry lift slightly from her shoulders. She approached Thor's bedside, reaching out to gently brush his hair back from his forehead. "You scared us," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.
Thor reached for her hand, squeezing it gently. "I'm sorry," he murmured, his eyes filled with regret. "I should have been more careful."
Millie, sensing the somber mood, climbed onto the bed beside her father, cuddling close. "Daddy, don't go again," she pleaded, her voice small but determined.
Thor's heart broke at his daughter's words, and he pulled her into a tight embrace. "I promise, Millie," he vowed, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "I won't leave you again."
Madilyn smiled softly, tears of relief streaming down her cheeks. Despite the hardships and dangers they faced, they were together again, and that was all that mattered.
As Thor drifted off to sleep, exhaustion finally claiming him, Madilyn tucked Millie into bed beside him. She watched over them both with a sense of gratitude and love, knowing that their family had weathered another storm and emerged stronger than before.
