Chapter 36: Awakening Powers
The festive season had enveloped Stark Tower, casting a warm glow over Thor, Madilyn, and little Millie as they celebrated her first Christmas. Amidst the twinkling lights and the joyous laughter of friends, Thor couldn't shake the growing realization that Millie might be more than just an ordinary child.
As the holiday cheer settled, Thor and Madilyn began to notice subtle occurrences around Millie—tiny sparks of energy dancing around her fingers when she reached out for a toy, or small objects inexplicably floating in the air for a moment before gently settling back down.
One evening, after Millie had fallen asleep, Thor sat in the dimly lit living room, Mjolnir resting beside him. He watched Millie's chest rise and fall with each peaceful breath, his mind swirling with thoughts. Madilyn joined him, a cup of tea in hand, and sat beside him on the couch.
"Do you think she has inherited abilities, like mine?" Thor finally voiced his concerns, his voice low but tinged with a hint of worry.
Madilyn sighed softly, placing a comforting hand on Thor's arm. "I've been noticing it too," she admitted, her brow furrowing with concern. "She's so young, Thor. What if her powers grow beyond our control?"
Thor looked at Madilyn, grateful for her understanding. "I fear that too," he confessed. "But we cannot ignore this. She is our daughter, and we must protect her."
The next day, Thor decided to gently test Millie's abilities. He created a simple scenario in the playroom—a set of building blocks stacked neatly on the floor. Sitting beside Millie, Thor encouraged her to focus, gently coaxing her to try and move the blocks with her mind.
Millie, oblivious to her father's intentions, giggled and clapped her hands in delight. "Dada, look!" she exclaimed, pointing excitedly at the blocks. To Thor's astonishment, the blocks wobbled slightly, then lifted a few inches off the ground before gently floating back down.
Thor's eyes widened in awe, a mix of pride and concern flooding his heart. Madilyn, who had been watching from the doorway, gasped softly. "She did it," she whispered, her voice tinged with amazement.
As days passed, Thor and Madilyn closely monitored Millie's abilities, documenting each occurrence. They sought advice from Natasha, who suggested caution and patience, emphasizing the importance of understanding Millie's unique abilities before making any decisions.
One afternoon, as Thor and Madilyn sat in the living room discussing Millie's progress, an unexpected event unfolded. Millie, frustrated with a toy that wouldn't work, let out a cry of distress. In an instant, a soft blue glow surrounded her, calming her down and causing the toy to miraculously start working again.
Thor and Madilyn exchanged glances, their hearts racing with a mix of wonder and concern. "She has powers," Thor murmured, his voice filled with both pride and apprehension.
Madilyn nodded solemnly, her eyes never leaving Millie. "And we will help her learn to control them," she vowed, determination firm in her voice.
Later that evening, as Millie slept soundly in her room, Thor and Madilyn sat by her bedside. "She is our little miracle," Thor said softly, brushing a stray lock of hair from Millie's forehead.
Madilyn smiled, leaning into Thor's embrace. "Yes, she is," she agreed, her voice filled with love and unwavering determination. "And we will do whatever it takes to protect her and help her understand her gifts."
As the night stretched on, the stars twinkling outside the tower's windows, Thor and Madilyn held onto each other, united in their resolve to nurture Millie's burgeoning abilities and ensure a safe and bright future for their extraordinary daughter.
