Silence filled the air as the guests of the Vinhold Kingdom entered the room... The tension that surrounded everyone was almost more than Emerald could bear... She had met with numerous high ranking nobles in her lifetime up until this point, but the idea of standing before a real king scared her... They needed to be on their best behavior in front of him! If they didn't... doom could befall her and her friends...

"Unfortunately, the fact that Leo and Leviathan are here with me does not make this any easier!"  she thought to herself. The two boys weren't exactly the most respectable of people... "I hope this doesn't go down poorly..."

When the group got to the area were they were to stand before the King of Vinhold, they along with everyone else in the room got on one knee and bowed as the presence of the Vinhold royal family graced the room.

"All hail his majesty, the King of Vinhold, Julius Vinhold XI!" one of the servants called out to the crowd. "With him is the rest of the royal family, Queen Amelia II and Princess Nova!" The king took a few minutes and then he and his family sat on the throne. When they did, the servant continued to speak. "Today we have the esteemed guests who saved the city of Rockway from invaders. Although the city was not under the jurisdiction of our kingdom, King Julius has still requested that these brave souls come to speak with him today."

The formerly mentioned king who now sat upon his throne signaled for the servant to stop talking. Now, he spoke to the audience before him. "You may all now stand."

Doing as he instructed, Emerald and her friends got back to their feet to now face the king. From what she could see, he had a tired look on his face and honestly looked nothing like how Emerald would have envisioned a king to look. Still, he had such kind eyes...

"Maybe this won't be so bad after all..."

The king then narrowed his eyes and looked straight into the ones of the heroes before him. "I would like to honor you for saving the city of Rockway from the intruders that you fought there. Seeing as not one innocent citizen was so much as harmed in the attack, how does forty pieces of gold sound?"

Emerald's eyes widened as she heard the king's possible reward announced. "Forty pieces of gold?! Five could buy someone a small mansion! Does this king just throw money around like it's nothing?!"  Not even someone of Emerald's high status could fathom such a high reward being given!

And to further prove just how unnecessary the idea of so much money seemed for the simple deeds Emerald and her friends had done, the whispers of the nobles around them echoed across the room.

"Forty? Is his majesty sure that is wise?"

"They aren't even nobles of our kingdom!"

"The only one of them I even recognize is the girl... She's a noble from the Vincent household of the Kushida Kingdom. The others must only be commoners!"

The king frowned as she heard the words of his people. "I know that forty pieces of gold seems like more than necessary for the mere act of these people, but let me remind you that the four of them managed to slay 45,000 attackers all on their own! Not even the knights of our own kingdom could manage to bring down one!" He looked back at the three guests and smiled. "Also, I would like if you would join us for a banquet in celebration of what you have done. It should only last the night, so you should be able to go on your way by tomorrow morning."

Emerald looked over at Leopold. She knew that they had wanted to head back to the city and find the two friends they had left behind in Rockway as soon as possible, however...

He gave a slight nod. Emerald took a shallow deep breath and then turned her attention back to the ruler of Vinhold. "That should be alright with us. We are in no hurry, so joining a banquet by your request is much appreciated." Of course that was all a lie, but sounding humble is always the best way to talk with royalty.
