As Leopold began his pursuit on the foes ahead of him, others inside of city were trying in their own way to stop the chaos. In particular, Emerald Vincent was helping to evacuate the citizens from the city before they were killed.
"Leviathan, take this group east!" she ordered to her friend. "The enemy hadn't started to attack the area there, so you should be able to get out."
Leviathan nodded. "Understood, miss." He used his water magic to create a sort of "water raft" that floated himself and the group of people out of the area. Once they were far enough out of sight, Emerald turned back to helping the other people in the area.
"There are too many people for me to help alone..." she anxiously thought. "Singe and Lucy disappeared just before this whole mess started and I just sent Leviathan off! Lee, where the heck are you?!" She gritted her teeth, but then suddenly heard a loud sound coming closer and closer.
Emerald peeked behind her and then widened her eyes in shock. "Flying boulders?!" A large amount of gigantic rocks were being thrown at the city and partially at the area where Emerald was. She had no time to get out of the way as the boulder flew right at her.
"Is this really the end?" Emerald took a short deep breath before she closed her eyes. How had she even gotten in this mess?! All she had ever wanted was a nice and peaceful life...
8 years earlier...
Emerald sat inside of the carriage that was taking her towards her new home. Apparently, Emerald had relatives who were nobles that had offered to take her and her brother into their family. That meant that Emerald was now about to start her new life as a noble of the Vincent household.
She sighed. "Being a noble sure sounds like tiring work... I had always wanted to live out my days in the village... Marry one of the kids around my age... HOW THE HECK DID THID HAPPEN?!!"
Cinder family was now living in the Kushida palace as royalty after her father had been made the new king which meant that Emerald wouldn't be able to see her very often... And Leopold and Ceil had been officially adopted by Cinder's family which meant that they were at the castle with her...
"And I'm all alone..." she whispered under her breath.
Emerald's brother, Jack, laughed from beside her. "Still pouting, Emerald? I'm sure that this will all work out." He smiled. Jack had always acted as a sort of mediator for their group of friends. He was kind and gentle... Emerald looked up to him as a sort of role model.
"I know... It's just weird." Emerald told him. "Don't you find it hard to have to leave Leo and Peter behind?!" She knew that he had to be somewhat sad.
The boy juggernaut at her question. "I guess it is a little strange... Still, I trust that we will all be alright. Besides, maybe this will be a good change of pace..."
Finally giving in, Emerald nodded and then went back to her own thoughts. "This does mean that things won't ever be the same... The idea of a nice and peaceful life is long gone."
"By the way, Jack..." she continued. "just what are these relatives like exactly? Cinder's dad just said that they were distant relatives that were taking us in... Do you think they're mean?"
He shook his head. "I'm sure that they will be nice. Try to stay positive, sister."
Finally, after a little bit more time had passed, the carriage taking Emerald and Jack to their relatives stopped and the two children were then able to step outside. When Emerald did, her eyes widened at what she saw.
"It's huge!" she exclaimed. "I've never seen a house this big!" She looked at the servant who had taken them to the house and smiled. "You're saying that we are going to be living here?!"
The servant nodded. "This is the ninth house of Duke Vinhold. I do apologize though that he and Miss Vinhold will not be able to come and see you for a few months due to some pressing matters. Until then, myself as well as some other servants will be looking after you."
Emerald didn't exactly understand most of what they were saying, but it sounded as if she and her brother would be staying here by themselves for the next period of time.
"So cool..."
Yep. This most definitely confirmed what Emerald had thought would happen. It seemed that she was correct in her assumptions.
"Things will never be the same again..."
Back to the present...
And now... after all she had done in the last eight years to try and live as normal a life as she possibly could away from the complications of nobility... She was going to die.
"I guess the dream I had of marrying a nice guy and living in the countryside were never meant to be..." she thought. "This is it..."
However, before the massive boulder could smash her to pieces, something came between Emerald and the rock. A man with dark black hair stood in front of Emerald and split the rock down the middle with his sword which caused the stone to fall around her. He turned around and looked at her.
"Are you in good health?"
Emerald breathed rapidly as she tried to process what had happened. The rock had been coming in so fast that even she had no time to stop it! So then how did he...
"Diablo..." she said, seeing who the person was. "t-thank you..." Right. This was the person what Lee had brought with him... The mysterious person known as Diablo. "W-Why are you here?"
"Master Leopold asked me to come and help you out." he answered. "He will be fighting against the foes in the mean time." He said all of that so seriously. He was kind of weird...
The girl took another deep breath and then nodded. "Well if you are here, I need some help evacuating the rest of the citizens." If Diablo was here to help her, then it would be prudent for him to use his skills to do that much.
He nodded. "Of course."
However, just before the two could continue with Emerald's goal, the sound of a large explosion caught their ears. The noise had come from where most of the opposition was attacking the city.
"That probably isn't good."
"It will be alright, miss." Diablo assured her. "That was just Master Leopold's work."
"What do you mean by that?!" she asked him. Just what exactly had Lee done?! Was be alright?! "Should we go and help him."
"It isn't necessary." Diablo again guaranteed. "My master has already taken care of our enemy."
Meanwhile some distance off...
What was going on? Everything hurt so much... He had only taken this job of attacking the surface dwellers so that his family wouldn't be hurt... And yet, it looked as if he was going to die either way...
"We were winning from what I could see... What happened?!" he asked himself.
A figure stood in the smoke... The one who had attacked him and his comrades was right there... The guy who had singlehandedly wiped out an entire army of demons, dragons, AND monsters?! Who was he? Why the heck was he so strong... It didn't make any sense...
"I'm fading fast, but I can still see...
"This guy is a monster..."
