Y/N'S POV;
"And Jay?? He is protective like usual — like Dad, but worse. He's OVERLY protective of me. Or was he to his friends at this point?? Because I'm starting to think—"
"I'm sure he's a protective guy in general. You know Jay," Heeseung tells me on the other line of the phone.
I rolled my eyes, "Sure. But at this point, he loves you guys more than his own sister."
I hear Heeseung chuckling. "It may seem like it but he loves you a lot."
"PFT. EW. Don't say it like that," I pretended to gag, causing both of us to laugh.
"Okay, okay. But I'm serious. Ever since I met him in high school he has always been a caring and attentive guy even if it doesn't seem like so."
"I guess... How come we never met if you met Jay in high school?"
Heeseung hums. "Ah... you might not believe this but I was probably busy with uh..." His voice trailing off.
I furrowed my brows in confusion. "With...?"
"Uh... studying... so I didn't go out too much."
I pressed my lips in a thin line trying not to laugh.
"Why are you so quiet..." Heeseung asks me.
"It's just— I really couldn't believe it!" I bursted out laughing. "I didn't know Lee Heeseung was a nerd."
"Puhlease. I'm studious. And also, I didn't really go to parties until college and you know, our age difference."
There was a short moment of silence until Heeseung spoke up again. "And uh... my ex..."
I hummed in response, not knowing what to say.
"You're probably curious about her, right?" Heeseung asks me.
I bit my lower lip, asking myself the same question. "Kind of... I guess... You don't have to tell me anything if you don't want to," I quickly tell him, not wanting to cross the line.
"No, it's okay. You deserve to know, you know." Heeseung inhales then exhales. "Long story short she was my first girlfriend, my first everything. We met during our first year of college. We were great, we were, but..." His voice trailed off once more.
"It's okay, take your time," I assure him, not wanting to pressure his emotions.
"I-I don't know what went wrong but she just left one day? Back then I was too blinded to see her manipulation and the whole situation was just horrible for me because of family problems," He rambled on, and his voice seemed to get thinner when he mentioned his family.
"Slow down, Hee. It's okay, I'm here," I remind him.
"I'm not— I'm not shaken up because of Iseul, it's not that. I'm so over her and what happened between us. I was just hella confused when she showed up again after these years," he explains, not wanting me to mistake him.
I nodded, even though I knew he couldn't see me. Nevertheless, I kept listening.
"My mom... I found out she was cheating on my dad — on us at the age of 10. My dad was devastated, obviously and he would get drunk and sleep with someone new every week. I hated seeing him like that," he spoke, slowly becoming rushed.
I instantly felt sympathy for him. I wanted to comfort him, but I couldn't tell him "It's okay," because deep down, it wasn't.
"I didn't want to be like him. I didn't. I can't blame my dad though, but it was hard to understand why he destroyed himself back then." He paused for a second, sniffling a few times. I knew he was trying to keep it to himself, but I knew it was a suffocating feeling.
