"It's burning up in here"
"It literally feels like I'm in hell right now,"
I rose from under the counter to notice Chanel and Myles laying on the extremely small table with folded clothes.
"My dad said you guys can't lay on that," I reminded them for what seemed like the thousandth time.
We were all working at my dads surf shop on this extremely hot day.
With no fan.
"Technically we offered our free labor, so I would like to lay on this table in exchange for such," Myles said, mocking a British accent.
I rolled my eyes, resting my head in my palm, "I mean my dad did offer to pay you guys," I pointed out.
He really didn't have to though, both of them are extremely well off and probably never had to work a day in their life if they chose to.
I'm just the lesser of the bunch, I don't have a huge mansion like either of them, my family was hardly able to get an average townhouse.
And I still of course had to work an actual job, and not tour the world being a fake model.
"What type of man would I be if I accepted money from your dad?" Myles questioned, rising from the clothing table.
"One who accepted money from Cairo's dad," Chanel replied, rising from the table with him.
Myles walked over to the counter I was seated behind before leaning down.
"So what happened at the football game yesterday?" he asked, which easily brought me back to yesterday.
And also brung an immense heat to my cheeks.
That they both unfortunately seemed to notice.
"Spill, Right. Now." Chanel demanded as she approached me.
I dropped my gaze from theirs, recalling the events from yesterday, "Nothing, it was just a regular football game." I murmured hoping that it would save me from explaining.
"Negative, what happened?" Chanel shut me down instantly and with that I knew that there was no way out.
"It's that girl, I'm calling it," I heard Myles whisper.
A sigh fell from my lips and he jumped up, "Called it!" he exclaimed causing me to roll my eyes.
But before I was able to come clean I noticed a familiar figure walking in the distance and for a split second it felt like I was seeing things.
"Wait guys come here," I said, motioning them over to me.
Chanel shook her head, "See you're trying to avoid the topic, we're not letting it go that easy," she replied and when the person gradually approached I knew I was on a time crunch.
"Guys this is actually serious can you hide?" I rushed out but they still shot me skeptical looks, "Okay we hung out, I'll explain later just can you get behind the counter because I swear this is her about to walk in right now."
Upon hearing my spew of information both Chanel and Myles turned around to see somebody who looked exactly like Corey in the distance.
Even though they haven't seen her before they both got behind the counter, with Chanel ducking down and Myles jumping over it like a weirdo.
I watched intently as the figure neared closer to the door and I was thankful that the glass had a slight tint to it.
"Hey I had no idea you worked here," Corey said walking into the surf shop.
I tightly pursed my lips when I felt a hand slightly pinch my exposed legs.
I pushed away, letting a slight smile grow on my lips, "Yeah its my dads place, I'm here when I'm not booked or at school," I replied, making sure to add in my lie.
She hummed, "Were there people in here with you? Or do you work alone?" she questioned which made somebody flick my leg from under the counter.
I harshly swallowed, "Yeah no..." I glanced over to the second set of doors we had, "There were customers in here a few seconds before you came in but they had left through that door," I said pointing over to it.
She glanced over to the door before turning back and nodding at me.
I cleared my throat, "So you come around here a lot I assume?" I asked, cutting off the brief silence.
Corey nodded, "Yeah I get my smoothie ingredients from the place down the boardwalk," she replied.
That place was extremely popular everytime I passed by. My mom brung home some fruits from there one time and they were actually good.
I felt another poke me after silence filled the air for a short while, signaling me to speak, "Oh right, their fruits are really good," I replied, hating that Chanel and Myles were hearing this whole interaction right now.
I was never going to hear the end of it.
"I'll have to make you one of my world famous smoothies then," she joked, "I'll see you around though, bye Cairo."
"Bye." I replied watching as she exited through the glass double doors, heading to I assume the smoothie place.
And after a few seconds passed Chanel and Myles were crawling from under the counter as I backed up.
"Don't tell me that was the girl," Myles said, rising to his full height.
I sucked in a deep breath, "Yeah, we just hung out yesterday she took me to this pizza spot and that's all nothing crazy besides the fact that one of the dudes is cheating on his girlfriend." I added.
"Hold on, back up," Chanel raised a brow, "Yall hung out? Like out of school?" she questioned, reiterating my previous sentence.
"Yes hung out nothing crazy, we were just..." I trailed off not really knowing what to label us as.
I mean were we friends now?
"Just in love with each other," Myles murmured under his breath.
I shot him a narrowed look, "Were just friends, she helped me twice, nothing more," I added once again.
"I don't know man, that seemed like a little something more if you asked me," he murmured, lazily raising his brows.
I rolled my eyes, "That's not important, what's important is that one of them is cheating," I said, trying to steer away from the topic of Corey and I, because truthfully I didn't know what was happening myself.
But I hope we could just leave it how it is.
Chanel shook her head at the change of topic, "So there are two people in the same friend group dating, and he's cheating on her with someone else?"
I nodded, "Right."
"I dont even know why people date in their long term friend group thats like incest," Myles oddly pointed out.
"Okay... did you get proof of him in the act or anything?" Chanel questioned, ignoring Myles' previous statement.
"Gross dont say in the act that's weird, and no I learned that they're dating after the fact," I added.
"Well then we have an objective for you next week, expose him for cheating," Myles said, fanning himself.
"She can't just expose him she needs to gather proof, and then boom drop it all at once," Chanel explained.
And as they went back and forth trying to explain what I should do, my mind drifted back to the interaction between me and Corey.
Because truthfully I found myself enjoying talking to her.
And considering what I was really doing at Richwood ... this was bad.
Extremely bad.
