Grocery Store Day Out

"Behind you," I said as I squeezed between my dad who was backing up with a large tray of food.

"I need a warning at least five seconds before," my dad said from behind me as I approached the fridge.

I grabbed the pie crust before closing the fridge  and placing it on the counter, which was covered in ingredients and different dishes.

"How many people are coming again?" I asked my mom as she washed a dish off in the sink.

"Uhh— a lot, remember I told you we were hosting this year?" she questioned.

I honestly did forget she had told me that.

"On your right," my dad said, bringing me out of my thoughts as he walked past me with another silver tray.

I watched as he placed the tray down before wiping his forehead with his arm, "Non helpers don't need to be in the kitchen," he said, obviously referring to me.

I raised a brow, "I am helping, and you're supposed to be outside anyways," I replied.

He was responsible for grilling whatever it was this year.

Which was mainly just vegetables, so my mom has less to work on.

Which is also why I was helping as well.

But just on small things, such as the pie.

"Don't tell me I didn't pick any up," my mom whispered as she rummaged through the cabinets.

"What is it?" I questioned.

I could have seen it around somewhere.

She remained silent as she continued looking around the kitchen, causing me and my dad to shoot each other questionable looks.

She shook her head before sighing, "I must have forgotten a whole bag worth of stuff at the store," she said, pinching the bridge of her nose.

I glanced at my dad before looking back to her, "Do you have a list of what it was? I can go get it?" I questioned.

But she only shook her head once more, "It's going to be too late," she replied.

"We have a little over eleven hours, I'm sure it won't take long." my dad jetted in.

I nodded, "Just give me the list and I'll be back within the hour with everything, nobody will even notice," I continued.

My mom let out a defeated sigh before reciprocating the nod, "Okay, but please try and be back in an hour," she said, walking up the stairs to get her purse.

I couldn't for sure promise that.

But it did sound good in person.

Eventually she came back down with a fifty and a small post-it note, "Don't lose it, but if you do, just tell me so I can text it to you," she said, sticking the post-it on my forehead.

"Yes ma'am," I joked before peeling it off and reading it.

The list had overall simple things but I see how she managed to forget them.

"Your one hour timer starts now," my dad said as I approached the front door

I rolled my eyes as I opened the door before stepping through and closing it.

Like always, everything is within walking distance so carrying one bag of groceries back isn't too much work.

It also won't take long.

I blankly continued my path to the store walking past the somewhat empty streets.

Mostly because people either left town for thanksgiving or are hosting their parties after four.
