Chapter Ten:
~ Knock knock it's me, Jesus ~
"Yooooohooooooo!"
The sound of Rory's voice echoed through the cabin, breaking the serene silence that had settled over us like a warm blanket. I groaned, my head buried in Charles' chest, as he chuckled.
"Looks like our rescue party has arrived," he murmured, his voice low and amused.
"Ughh, not already," I groaned, my voice muffled by his chest. "Make them go away."
The door opened and closed. I could hear footsteps, muffled voices, and Charles's heartbeat. I grumbled something to myself as he chuckled and untangled himself from me.
"I can't believe we have to give them the satisfaction of being right." I groaned, sitting up. He smiled.
"I'm never going to hear the end of it." He sighed.
"Hang on... what if..." I began, my evil plan light bulb switching on.
"Nothing good has ever started with those words. Especially from you." He grinned as he looked down at me, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Okay rude. But what if we don't tell them." I smirked up at him. "What if we just pretend nothing happened?"
He froze, his shirt halfway over his head. "You're serious?"
"Yeah," I said, nodding my head. "We can go back to hating each other for a while."
"I never hated you, Biche." He said sweetly.
"Bullshit."
"Okay fine, maybe a little."
"Lovebirds?" Daniel's voice was laden with sarcasm. They were in the kitchen.
"You in or you out?" I asked Charles. He hesitated. "You're just scared because you know I'm a better actor than you."
"Challenge accepted," he said, a smirk playing on his lips as he pulled his shirt back down. "Let's give them a show they won't forget."
We made our way into the kitchen, our expressions carefully schooled into cool indifference. Rory and Daniel were already there, their eyes bouncing between us with barely concealed excitement.
"Surprise!" Rory exclaimed, her eyes alight with satisfaction as she took in the sight of us standing awkwardly apart in the kitchen.
"We have come to rescue you two lovebirds," Daniel said with a knowing smile, raising an eyebrow at Charles.
"Rescue?" Charles feigned confusion, his arms folded across his chest. "From what?"
"Oh, you know," Rory said, her voice dripping with false innocence. "The deadly island full of wild animals and no Wi-Fi."
"You wouldn't know deadly if it bit you on the ass," I quipped, earning a snort from Charles.
They looked at each other, their smug expressions slipping a notch. Clearly, they weren't expecting us to be so... normal.
"Are you going to apologize for kidnapping us yet?" I crossed my arms.
"Kidnapping?!" Rory held a hand to her heart dramatically, her eyes wide with feigned shock. "Us? We would never."
"You literally handcuffed me to a tree," Charles retorted, his eyes glinting with amusement. "What would you call it?"
"Bonding?" Daniel suggested with a hopeful smile.
