Evan:

When Evan gets to Defence Against the Dark Arts, he is expecting to get to sit next to Kit.

But the universe is cruel

As he walks into the classroom, their Professor, Professor Archer makes them all stand at the back of the class.

"I have devised a seating arrangement based on ability, I'm hoping that you are able to motivate and aid one another and bring up the areas in which you may be weaker in" Professor Archer announces after making the class stand at the back of the room the moment they walked into Defence Against the Dark Arts

Evan hates this idea, he could end up with anyone. Or Worse, he could end up with Barty Crouch The class seems to also hate this idea as evidenced by their collective groan

Professor Archer lists pairs of names, placing various people together until he eventually reaches Evan's name

And Evan really hopes he heard wrong because surely not

"Barty Crouch Jr and Evan Rosier" Professor Archer states, pointing to a table on the left side of the room just behind the centre row

It takes everything in Evan not to scream because it cannot get worse than this

"You've got to be joking" Barty states, an evident tone of annoyance, taking the words right out of Evan's mouth

"As you can see, Mr Crouch, I am not laughing, now sit" Professor Archer retorts.

Barty scowls at Professor Archer and then groans in frustration but trudges over to his chair nonetheless. Evan doesn't grace him with a look, instead taking the seat closest to the wall and wishing for this to be over

"Just so you know" Barty begins "this doesn't mean we're going to start a budding friendship" Barty continues

Evan scoffs at him and rolls his eyes "please, the day I want to be friends with you is the day I need to be shot between the eyes" Evan retorts

Barty rolls his eyes at Evan, as though he thought Evan was being dramatic but truly, Evan can't think of anything he wants to do less than spend his free time with Barty Crouch willingly

"Oh come on, Rosier, you can lie to me, that's fine, but lying to yourself? That's just sad" Barty pushes

"You know, Crouch, not everyone wants to be as far up your arse as Regulus Black" Evan rolls his eyes

Barty does not seem to take lightly to Evan mentioning Regulus, immediately looking defensive

"I'd watch yourself if I were you" Barty warns, clenching his jaw

"You are talking an awful lot for someone that claims to hate me" Evan comments

"I do hate you" Barty replies, matter-of-factly

"Mhm" Evan hums in response

Evan's eyes are firmly fixed on the front of the classroom, but he can feel Barty's eyes boring into him, he can feel his stare boring through him. Part of him wants Barty to stop looking at him as begins to grow uncomfortable with the attention

But another part of him...

Another part of him wants Barty to see him, to notice him. He wants to be seen by the one person that made him so invisible so that maybe, just maybe, Barty will see that Evan doesn't deserve what Barty has put him through

"You're insufferable, you know, no wonder you have no friends" Barty continues despite the fact that Evan hasn't actually said anything

"Incase you missed it yesterday, I made a friend" Evan says firmly, feeling a burning need to prove himself that only seems to surface when he's around his Father
