Tannenburg was a small village located in East Prussia in the German empire. And the battle was a result of poor Russian troop movements and also smart German technologies.
As before the Battle the Russians had gained large holdings in East Prussia and was becoming a larger threat to German civilians. So when the Russians launched their assaults against the Germans, they hunkered down and held off the oncoming armies. Then a small stalemate ensued where the German intelligence had cut through Russian broadcasting signals and the Russian generals were planning that Army group north would not advance any further. While the southern army group would launch their attack and defeat them near Tannenburg. However now that the Germans had all the information they needed to use. They sent many men to the southern front and left the northern front alone. The Russians attacked and they did not the expect the German resistance to be so strong and formidable. So they were quickly halted in making their advance. Then the army group North came in from the east to flank the Russians and when the Russians tried to resume their assault, the Germans moved around them and encircled them which made the Russians troops inside the pocket trapped and many surrendered which massively weakened the Russian foothold on the East Prussian claims. And this massive Russian defeat would result in the retreat from East Prussia all the way across from the Kherson river. And this would lead to the eventual defeat of the Russian army as the country slowly spiraled into revolution and Communist attacks.
The German intelligence and high command proved their value and by the cutting through the Russian broadcasting system allowed the Germans to easily decifer the Russian troop movements. And this would result in Russian defeat because of the lack of Morale and military support in terms of supplies and equipment were also lacking. This would also make Russia lose their small holdings in East Prussia. And also losing a large portion of men in the process as 80,000 taken as prisoners of war. And would infuriate the public because of Russias embarrassment against the far smaller German nation. Which would result in the Tsars idea of taking control of the Eastern front and would cause the public to be even more aggressive because of his in capability to have a military victory aswell which would also link to the Russian downfall.
