After Germany's defeat in WW1 and its resurgence between 1933-1939, it had gained large territories and resources from allied passive aggression. And had annexed Austria and half of Czechoslovakia with Slovakia becoming its satellite state of Nazi Germany. Then they decided to attack Poland which they would defend theirselves until the end. However the Polish were constantly pushed back and retreated to every defensive line they had. But many of the Polish forces were trapped in the capital of Warsaw which would last a painful 26 days until the near end of the military campaign by Hitler.

The seige would start on the 8th September 1939 and the Polish garrison in Warsaw had dug into defensive positions and held their ground against the oncoming German attacks. German Panzers would race across the land and out match the Polish with little armour they had theirselves. However the Polish anti tank weapons were tough against German armour. As they could destroy Panzer I, II, III and even the Panzer IV's however the polish lacked tanks but did have a large group of Tankets nicknamed the Cockroach by Germans for its fast and low profile. That were also tough machine gunners.

Food and ammunition reserves were high in the city but they were not invincible to bombing and raids. The German Luffwaffe bombed large areas of Warsaw and much of the city was reduced to rubble which made it really tough to fight without cover. Still the Polish forces held their own. Whilst the rest of the Polish forces were in retreat as the German war machine Blitzkrieged around them before the Red army joined the war and invaded from the east. The Polish troops were holding out for a rather long time. However the bombing raids by the Luftwaffe were becoming excessive to handle and most of the food and ammunition reserves were beginning to run dry. Polish forces had almost no ammo left to defend and the Germans kept pushing into the suburbs of the city. But ambushes kept them at bay for a long extensive time period. But the bombs would soon detonate and the Germans troops caved in on the defences. And the last Polish troops in Warsaw surrendered to Germany on the 28th September 1939. Leaving the Polish forces in the centre of the country to be alone before they finally surrendered a few days later on the 6th October 1939 marking the start of the Second World War for Britain and France.
