Doiran was also a small village located in the south of Bulgaria and at the time of the oncoming Greek allied invasion, the Austro German Bulgarian forces were not able to hold the Anglo French Greek Italian and Serbian troops from marching further north.
The attack started in the midst of 1918 and was a long way away from becoming anything major until the British had arrived at the scene and began to start destroying everything with artillery shells and tanks. However the Bulgarian forces who were holding defensive positions across a river lining on a Bridge and the only way to prevent the British from crossing was to destroy or block the bridge from being entered. The Bulgarian forces were not as well equipped or had the numbers to sustain the fight for a long time. While British troops had enough time and ammunition to hold on their defence.
However the French forces had previously assaulted the Crna bridge in late 1917 and had seized its weapons and caught a few prisoners of war aswell. The British took advantage of the Bulgarian weakness. And they launched their assault at the defensive river near the town of Doiran. Bulgarian resistance despite the lack of ammunition and manpower, they put up fierce resistance for a long time. Eventually British troops were not able to cross the river defensive line. And the British decided to call off the attacks. Therefore the battle for Doiran ended in Bulgarian victory. One of the very few they would have on a heavily retreating course until their surrender in September of 1918 the first of the Central powers to surrender to the Allies. And then the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian empire aswell.
This battle can be significant because the way that despite the Bulgarians being outnumbered and out gunned. They were able to still hold their own against the British empire and her commonwealth forces. And even defeat the British at the battle of Doiran. In this miraculous case even though the Bulgarian forces were the weakest of the Central powers was able to hold off the strongest of the allies as Britian had the second largest army in the world at the time of the first world war. And this shocked all of the Central powers and allies to how they were able to maintain and hold off the most powerful empire in human history.
