The Battle for Poland marked the first major Allied defeat after the highly determined Polish troops tried to defend their country from the German invasion however soon they would fight on a two front war which would accelerate their defeat from the Axis. But first we need to see where this all starts from. 1938-1939, Germany had resurgence of its former military might and had conquered Austria and Czechoslovakia through Anchluss. The Allies Britain and France didnt do anything to stop both German aggression and its expansion of territory. Which left Poland as the last straw before a war would kick off.

Hitler needed Poland so he could later attack the Soviet union but he also needed a buffer between the two because they would still be a threat to his power in the East. So Hitler didn't expect much but he did expect the Polish to resist so he brought up an army of 1,500,000 men but didnt have an overwhelming majority as Poland still possessed an army of 1 million theirselves. Hitler then prepared his Panzer divisions to conquer Northern Poland so they would be cut off from the sea and no longer have access to the important supplies they needed. The invasion was a go...

Bombs and more bombs were dropped on the defensive lines that Poland had and Poland was completely caught by suprise and by 2 days later Britain and France declared war on Germany which the Polish then expected to fight back and put them on a two front war.
However the Allies failed to put up any major resistance and they just sat an done nothing. Poland had now mobilised its army and began to fight back. The Polish had to keep retreating because the Germans were so fast that they couldn't put up any defences to stop the attack. Then the Polish retreated across the River Bou and then they would counterattack across the river and gain back a large part of territory after they reorganised their men into formation. But then the Germans were now at the suburbs of Warsaw and the Polish garrison in Warsaw held them off for a good time. Then Warsaw was seiged and then they would hold at desperately for many days. You can see the Seige of Warsaw in the next chapter. Polish troops kept retreating because the Germans kept pushing forward. Then the Red army from the Soviet union attacked from the Eastern border and was heavily under defended because many of the troops guarding the border had been diverted to help on the German front.

The Red army moved and found minimal resistance from Poland meaning that they moved on and also took major portions of land but soon they would be surrounded on both sides. Eventually Warsaw had fallen and many of the men had died or been captured by German Blitzkrieg. And with the depleted ammunition and morale the Polish had a small force left in the middle of the country and they stood no chance and they surrendered on the 6th October 1939 marking the beginning of the WW2 for Britain and France.
