The battle of the Bulge was a relatively short lived battle that resulted as an expected German defeat. The Germans were being heavily defeated on the western front and there was one last opportunity to push the Allies back into the sea similar to the 1940 large encirclement done at Dunkirk. And this was in the region of Belgium, Luxembourg area.
Hitler ordered to pull up his best men and resources he had left to do this operation however because of its limited number it would have to be done swiftly and efficiently to minimize the amount of casualties it would cause.
300,000 troops were called up to conduct the attack. There would be two armies that would do this operation...
The Northern attack would aim to catch the allies off guard and be the main attack to divert troops to the front. Then the southern attack would capture the railway junction of Bastoigne to prevent any further reinforcements. The attack began, the Germans charged at the American part of the line and they quickly fell back not expecting the Germans to charge at them when
in such a dire situation. With their Panzer divisions intact they continued pushing until they were forced to stop after heavy resistance. Then the Southern achieved far much more success and they pushed much further and also broke a defensive line they had and they made it to Bastoigne but the soldiers there unwilling to give it up decided to stay and they were encircled and trapped. However they were still able to communicate with the Allies behind enemy lines and they bring British troops up and they blocked any further advance. And then the British conducted an attack from the south where the German flanks were lacking reinforcements and strength. Then they pushed and they were able to free the American troops trapped in Bastoigne. And after a stage by stage conducted operation, the Germans were pushed back to where they started. Now with the no resources left, Hitler had done one of the worst decisions of the entire war. And would severely reduced the German army numbers. And with the Eastern front caving in on the Vistula Oder offensive. And with that they were forced to withdraw a significant quantity of troops to hold the Eastern front. And this turned the German western front onto full defensive mode. And avoid retreat much as possible. And would allow the Allies to push further towards the Ruhr and take Germany's war industry...
