After a long and exhausting day, Mia entered her room with a weary expression. She collapsed onto her bed, scrolling aimlessly on her phone. Her gaze shifted to her laptop, sparking a sudden memory.
"Oh yes, the chip," she murmured, quickly reaching for her laptop. She inserted the chip once more, and a file titled "Danny's helmet view" appeared on the screen. Pausing, she contemplated her next move.
"This truth could drastically change Melanie's life, for better or worse. Should I open it or destroy it like she wanted? I just want to help Melanie. Maybe this truth could bridge the gap between them," Mia thought, her heart racing as she hovered over the folder. She looked up, silently praying for the strength to help her friend.
With a deep breath, she clicked on the file. Her heart pounded as numerous video clips, around 18 or 19, filled the screen. "This is going to take longer than I thought," Mia muttered as she opened the first video.
The video quality was poor and frequently lagged, but it was still watchable. In the first clip, John Walker was seen addressing an audience, gathering well-wishes. The camera then panned to an older man sitting beside Danny. Mia didn't recognize him at first, but it was Elijah.
"Are you ready, son?" Elijah asked, and Danny's sigh was audible, the camera shaking as if he had nodded. Finding the video tedious, Mia decided to move on to the second clip.
In this one, Danny appeared to be looking at a photo of Noah in his wallet.
Mia's heart ached for Danny and for Noah, who had lost his father. Determined to uncover the truth, she continued watching video after video.
At Noah's Apartment
Noah was cooking while Melanie relaxed on the couch, her eyes often drawn to the pendant he had given her. She knew how much Noah loved her, and the thought warmed her heart. Every now and then, Noah would join her for a brief chat before returning to the kitchen.
"How much longer?" Melanie asked, adjusting her position on the couch.
"Just a few more minutes until you taste my delicious burritos," Noah called from the kitchen.
"But we could have ordered something, Noah. You didn't have to go through all this trouble," Melanie said.
"It's no trouble at all. I love cooking, especially for you." Noah came over and kissed her from behind the couch. "I can't wait for you to move in with me," he said, lying beside her with his head resting on her lap. "I want to sleep in your arms forever."
Melanie giggled, caressing his head. "Just a few more days, and we'll be together, living the life we always dreamed of," she said, kissing his forehead.
After chatting for a bit, Melanie reminded Noah about the food. He jumped up and rushed back to the kitchen. "The food's fine," he reassured her, making her chuckle. Then her phone buzzed with a message from Mia.
Mia: Mel, something important I need to tell you.
Melanie: What is it, Mia?
Mia: Mel...
The tension in Mia's messages made Melanie anxious.
Mia: I found out the truth.
Melanie's heart raced as she glanced at Noah setting the table in the kitchen. She quickly typed back.
Melanie: What is the truth, Mia?
There was a long, agonizing pause before the next message came.
Mia: It's true. Your dad killed Mr. Danny.
