Do you believe in Angels?

Chapter 13

The cool breeze blew strong through out the time I stood outside the hospital waiting for Mia to pick me up. I didn't want to go back to the building. Just not right now.

They all left me to die, which infuriated me. That nobody even tried to call me on my phone or attempt to locate me saddens me as well. I felt tears forming in my eyes as irritability spurted through out me. And what made me even more sad was the fact that Noah didn't visited me, neither did he called.

I got a text from Mia. She said she is on her way. I sat down under the fountain near the hospital. The voice of water relaxed me. I closed my eyes and enjoy the nature around me. Abruptly my phone rang. It was Noah.

"Hi". I said as soon as I picked up the phone. "Hi, how are you Melanie?". He asked. I sighed before answering. "I'm okay". I think he sensed the sadness in my voice. "Melanie, why are you sad?".

"Why didn't you show up? At the hospital". I asked hoping to hear a better explanation. "Who told you I didn't? I did. I checked on you thrice before going to my apartment. Your crew came to see you, so I had to leave before they could see me". He replied reducing my foul mood.

"You did?". I asked as my eyes enlightened. "Who do you think brought those flowers for you?". He said and I smiled. Even though deep down I knew that Noah wouldn't leave me, but it was good to hear it from him. "Melanie, I love you and I always will". He said to brighten up my mood. "I want to see you". I expressed my desire. "Sure, whenever you say. I should actually pick you up. Are you still at the hospital?".

"Yes, but Mia is coming to pick me up. I'll call you when I'll reach home". I replied as we both hung up. I saw a car pulled right infront of me. It wasn't Mia's car. I narrowed my eyes to have a better look of the person getting out of the car.

It was Mr. Duncan, he got out of the car and walked towards me. "Why are you standing here outside?". He asked but I turned my face away from him and heard him sigh. "Let's go". He said but I was so angry that I didn't even want to look at him. How dare they left me there alone. On my own.

"Melanie... let's go". He said once again but I scooped up my bag and was about to leave when he grabbed my hand. I immediately yanked my hand and glared at him. "What is your problem? Why are you trying to show me that you care about me huh? You people don't give a damn about anybody. You people are a group of callous, brutal, and egotistical brats. So don't pretend that you care and LEAVE ME ALONE". I shouted and my voice crack at the last three words as tears cascaded down my cheeks.

"Melanie give us a chance to explain". He said. As much as I wanted to express my anger, I decided not to because after all I have to stay with them and it's going to be a lot more difficult if I'll have grudges against them. I wiped my tears and agreed to go with him before informing Mia.

At Sorties building

Everyone was standing infront of me. Mr. Duncan, Daisy, Jacob, Henry and everyone else. Guilt was written all over their faces. I could see they all were trying to come with better excuses but all I could heard was silence. Until Daisy decided to speak.

"Look Melanie, I'm going to be honest with you. Yes we made a mistake! We shouldn't have left you behind. But didn't you remember what Duncan told you. Stay in his sight. But you didn't. You wander in the entire ballroom and honestly when we got to know about the explosion, we didn't have time to gather everybody". Daisy explained and I stared at her in disbelief. Is she blaming me for this?

"We're sorry. Please don't tell Mr. Walker about this. He's going to be very mad. He knows about the explosion but not about you". Daisy said almost begging me. "It's okay, I won't tell anyone". I replied and went upstairs in my room.

As soon as I reached my room, I wore my comfortable clothes and laid on the bed. I dialed Noah's number and put the phone on my ear. I heard him pick up the phone. "Hi love, How are you feeling now?". He asked and I blushed at the word 'love'.

"I'm good. Umm Noah can I ask you something?". I asked, playing with my hairs. "Ofcourse".

"How did you find me?". I asked out of curiosity. "I looked for you everywhere, all the rest rooms were unlocked except for one. I just took a deep breath and called your name multiple times and luckily you answered". He replied. "Why did you came back for me? I mean.. It was so dangerous, anything could happen. Why didn't you leave the ballroom just like everyone else?".

"Because Melanie.. Do you believe in angels?". He asked and I rolled my eyes and smiled, thinking what he's about to say. "Yes Noah and I know that they protect us".

"Then think of me as your personal angel. I'll always be there for you even if the whole world isn't". And I'll protect you". He said and I blushed. Suddenly someone knocked the door and I quickly shoved the phone inside my pocket. "Come in".

Daisy entered with a tray of soup in her hands. "I've brought this soup for you". She placed the soup on a table. "Thank you Daisy". I said. Before exiting the room, she turned to me and said something very unexpected. "Don't think for even a second that I care about you. Duncan asked me to give you the soup that's why I'm here". She scoffed and left the room.

I felt warm tears forming in my eyes but I wiped them and put my phone on my ear again. "Hello?". I said. "What was that all about Melanie? Who was that?". Noah asked and I got shocked that he heard everything. "Ahh.. that was Daisy. She made soup for me". I replied. "Why was she misbehaving with you?". "Forget it Noah. I'm used to it". I tried to change the subject. "Okay, If you say so".

We talked for hours that day. Talking about movies, books, picnics, chocolates and some more weird stuff. I like talking to him. It lightens my mind. And I just want to go on and never stop talking to him. He gives me a feeling of security and belonging.

We both lost track of time and don't remember when we drifted to sleep.

At Menecions Building

Elijah was working in his room when suddenly Stephan barged in. "Sir you called me?". He asked closing the door behind him. "Call everyone". He said as he adjusted the his glasses. "They're on their way. Anything important sir?". Stephan asked out of curiousity.

"Yeah I just needed to talk about some stuff". Elijah replied. After few minutes Matt and Lanny entered with some other members. "Sit down guys". Elijah commanded. Lanny looked at Matt and shrugged his shoulders.

"Do you guys know anything about last night?". Elijah asked and lit a ciggarette in his mouth. Stephan glanced at Matt and Lanny. "No sir, we don't have any clue about the explosion". Stephan replied. "It was a publicity stunt". Lanny suggested to which Stephan rolled his eyes. "It wasn't a publicity stunt. It was an act of revenge".

"I know something about the explosion. Noah told me". Elijah spoke and puffed smoke. Stephan gritted his teeth at Noah's name. "He told me that Mobsters took revenge from the Royals. I don't know what they have against each other". Elijah continued puffing ciggarette. "Anyways I don't want to join their fight. All I'm thinking is.. how did Noah end up in the hospital? I asked him to leave the ballroom immediately. And I'm pretty sure I saw him running out of the ballroom". Elijah stared in one direction, thinking deeply.

"Maybe he went back inside". Stephan spoke and scratched the back of his head. "No.. why would he go back to a place he knew is about to explode". Elijah spoke  with squinted eyes. "Maybe he forgot something". Matt uttered.

"What can be so important to him?". Elijah asked in what seemed like huge curiosity. Stephan shrugged his shoulders. Elijah closed his eyes and shook his head. "Anyways, I have given you guys some work. How far it has gone?".

"Sir I have summarised two locations. We'll send two groups at each and we're gonna find the treasure soon". Stephan said excitedly. "Good work". Elijah uttered and dismissed everyone.
