"The chamber of secrets?" I repeat Salazar however in a questioning tone.
"You know about it?" Godric asks.
"Yes everyone knows the legend of the chamber of secrets," I say like it's obvious.
"According to legend Slyth - you," I stop releasing that I'm telling the story to the people who were present.
"Go on," Salazar says with a smirk on his face. My cheeks heat up and I look down so they can't tease me.
"Before you left you built the chamber of secrets to make sure that eventually mudbloods could be wiped out from the school. In the legend it says that the chamber houses a monster that the heir of Slytherin can control," I say and finally look up. The four founders' mouths are on the floor.
"That's not what we planned," Helga finally says.
"What do you mean?" I ask completely confused.
"The chamber. We built it as a layer of defence for Hogwarts incase muggles find it," Salazar explains. I look away in disbelief at another lie to discredit Slytherin house.
"And the supposed monster?" I ask.
"A basilisk or more accurately multiple basilisk is the monster that lies in the chamber," Salazar explain.
"That would have worked well against muggles," I mumble in slight shock. Couldn't they have chosen a deadlier creature?
"I can see how my intent might have gotten lost on my descendants as the years passed," Salazar mumbles mostly to him.
"Well you did make your basilisk more deadly than ours," Rowena comments and Helga and Godric nod in support of her statement.
"I'm sorry what. How in Merlin's name do you make a basilisk more deadly?" I ask.
"The three of them magically removed the deadly eyes so one wouldn't die just by looking at it. I knew that if muggles really attacked they would do so by the thousands and with only the teacher being fully trained I decided to keep the deadly gaze of my basilisk," Salazar explains and I nod along that makes sense.
"But wouldn't it kill anyone who went into the chamber?" I ask.
"Normally yes, but if you were a parseltongue and your lineage traced back to me, you'd have immunity against that particular basilisk," Salazar.
"What did you name him or is it a she?" I ask to which Godric laughs, almost falling into Salazar's portrait while said man sighs as though I were an inconvenience to him.
"A basilisk is not a pet," Salazar says to which Godric immediately announces his disagreement.
"Salazar, my family owned dragons, I think I have the right to classify a basilisk as a pet and deserving of a name," I say. A memory springs to mind of a couple months ago when the Order was preparing to infiltrate a Pureblood event. I shake my head at the idiocy of that idea, it still was a stupid plan. But at least Dumbledore was smart enough to give everyone a history lesson on the great Pureblood houses.

"The old houses most dating to before Hogwarts. The blood unsullied by muggles as they say. Of course as time passed that sort of thinking became less prominent, but some have managed to persevere. Most notable; the Malfoy's House of the Serpent, the Lestrange's House of the Rook, the Black House of the Dragon. Interestingly the name used to be an insult, the house would use their dragons most notably the Hebridean black scale to burn cities to the ground and then take control. Ruler of ashes and soot which is also how they got the surname Black," Dumbledore explains. Everyone looks over at Sirius and I with wide eyes.
