Christmas holiday 1979
Estrella pov
I am sitting in my room reading a book when I hear a knock on my door.
"Enter," I say without looking up from the book.
"The tea that you ordered Lady Estrella," Lucy says as she enters the room and sets the tea down on my bedside table.
"Thank you Lucy," I say and she sends me a warm smile before closing the door. Not a minute later my door opens again making me glare at the intruder otherwise known as my brother Regulus.
"Hey Ari, you busy?" he asks casually and throws himself on my bed.
"Very," I mutter, making him chuckle and swing an arm around my shoulder, I change my position so that it's more comfortable and just when I think he came here just to cuddle he starts talking.
"Ancient runes," he asks in a judgemental tone. I ignore him but he then proceeds to snatch the book from my hand.
"Hey I was reading that and for your information it is very interesting," I snap at him.
"Yeah, yeah whatever try this instead," Regulus says and throws another book that I hadn't noticed he had brought onto the bed.
"Never seen this book before - Secrets of the Darkest Arts - where'd you get it Knockturn Alley?" I ask, eyeing the book in suspicion.
"It's very rare but it's in the restricted section of Hogwarts library usually you wouldn't be able to personally have one but, well we're Blacks," he explains and I nod along.
"What is it about?" I ask and open the book to the first page to view its content and my eyes widen as I read each chapter title.
"Well the Darkest of Arts," Regulus replies and takes the book from me and flips it to a certain page before handing it back to me.
"Immortality?" I ask with a laugh.
"Read it but I must warn you it's rather gruesome," Regulus says, making me snort.
"As if a little blood and gore would even affect me," I say, waving him off. I start ready but it becomes more and more difficult as I read about all the different acts that need to be done to become immortal. When I finally reach the end of the chapter I slam the book shut and release a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"As if a little blood and gore would even affect me," Regulus taunts me from earlier.
"Shut up, I think I need to throw up," I say.
"Wouldn't judge you," Regulus says. After a couple of minutes when I am certain I won't throw up I hand it back to Regulus.
"Who would even want to create such a thing? I mean to do all of that you would have to have no soul," I say.
"Ironic don't you think a person who would do such a thing literally defy nature in every way couldn't have a soul yet it's done to protect one's soul," Regulus comments.
"Yeah well let's hope that the person who invented this magic was at least smart," I say to which Regulus looks at me in confusion.
"Well if I were to go through all of that and in the process literally split my soul and store a piece on it in a container I would want that thing to be unbreakable," I explain.
"Yes, yes you're right! It probably would be hard next to impossible to destroy," Regulus says, his face lights up like he just realised this and also found a solution.
