16 : Third Time's The Charm

The girl groans as she wakes up. Hecate leans and brings a hand to her face. The sun is back and it has seemingly stopped raining. She looks forward and sees the burnt corpse of Porky 2.0. she stands and wobbly walks to Bambi who's close by. Hecate gives herself a one over. She has no injuries except a burn on the top of her right hand and a small burn on the arm above.

She nudges Bambi consciously and climbs on after making sure the dinosaur isn't injured, "Lets go back, yeah?" Hecate says as Bambi starts trotting.

The other camp seems normal when Hecate arrives. Except for the fact that Sammy is lying down, looking dead. She climbs up and begins wrapping her burns after tearing off the sleeves of her hoodie.

"So, is she dead?" Hecate asks. Kenji and Brooklynn stare at her in horror.

"No!?" Brooklynn exclaims.

"So where's Yaz? And what happened?"

"There was a third one. It attacked. Nobody was hurt until Sammy got caught in the crossfire while it ran away, towards an explosion." Kenji explains.

"Oh yeah, explosion was me. Porky 2.0 is dead." Hecate says. Technically, it was the lightening but they don't need to know that, "I'm guessing 'Mina went to get the antidote since shes the fastest?"

"Yeah you're right." Brooklynn says.

Hecate looks at them with guilty look, "Look, I'm sorry for what I said yesterday. I just needed a bit of time to adjust." But could they really blame her? She's spent almost a year without human contact and she's changed. Wouldn't it have been somewhat expected? Could she really trust them?

The two nod, "It's okay, Hecate, I understand." Brooklynn says. Kenji doesn't respond and hecate doubts he even heard her.

"I need to go help Yasmina." Hecate says before leaving.

"Yasmina!! Babe!?" Hecate calls out, "'Mina!?" Bambi runs a few miles before they hear her calling back.

"Hecate!?" Yasmina stops to a slow walk as bambi starts to slow, "You're back!! Are you okay!? Your hand, are you hurt!?"

Hecate drops down, "I'm so sorry, 'Mina. I should not have said.ghose things yesterday. It's just..it's been ten months. I haven't..it's been so long and I don't know how to act. I-i don't know if I can–i can trust any of you! Can–can I trust you, Yasmina!?" Hecate grabs the other girls shoulders before hugging her tightly, "Please tell me I can trust you! I need—i need to trust you, 'Mina!" She gasps as her heart beats faster, "I need to trust you..." She whispers, "Don't leave me. Please never leave me."

"I'm not going anywhere, 'Cate. I promise, so just breathe, okay?" Yasmina whispers, "I promise. I'll never leave you. Never again." Hecate's breathes even out and her hold loosens.

"Good. I'm happy, I'm so so happy we're together again."

"Me too. We need to go now, okay? We need that antidote." Yaz says.

She jerks her head up, "Right, right, for Sammy. We need to save Sammy. Let's go, you can ride with me." Bambi crouches and the two climb on, "C'mon Bambi. Let's go."

They arrive not long after and Bambi slows to a stop once more, "Omg, we're here, finally!" Yasmina exclaims and instantly runs inside, leaving Hecate with Bambi. Bambi walks forward a few more meters before letting her off.

"Thank you, my girl" Hecate says and gives the dino a hug, "Thank you for sticking with me, Bambi." Bambi chirps before leaning back and whipping her head. Hecate follows the dinos eyeline and narrows her eyes. Porky 3.0 sits in a tree, staring at them, "Stay here and watch it. I'll be back in two seconds." Hecate runs inside the lab and sees Yasmina frantically searching.
