TW: mentions of self-harm
18th December 2022
Taylor's POV:
"Happy Birthday, my sweetheart." I coo to my daughter as I take her out of her crib on the morning of her first birthday. "I can't believe you're turning one today. You're such a big girl now, aren't you? I love you and we're gonna have an amazing day!"
"Mama." Is all I receive, followed by a huge grin.
"Yes, babygirl. Come on, let's get you dressed."
We move to her changing table, where I dress the girl in a yellow jumpsuit with a flower pattern, that I already picked out yesterday, knowing it would most likely look absolutely cute.
I am wearing a delicate white dress, that just covers enough of my thighs to hide the fading scars, and a lose-knit, oversized cream-colored cardigan on top. My hair is somehow pinned up and accessorized with a thin, jeweled headband.
Once we reach the living room I set the girl down on the floor and proceed to make the last preparations for her birthday party. I only invited a few people having decided to keep it simple, since I don't want to overwhelm Hailey. I did bake a cake yesterday though and the house is decorated with all kinds of birthday stuff.
"You wanna open the presents I got you?" I say to the one-year old after kneeling down next to her and placing three little gifts in front of her. She immediately tries to rip off the wrapping paper but lacks the strength to do so. I help her and soon she holds a brand new doll in her hands, smiling from ear to ear. The other two presents include some clothes for her doll and a cuddly teddy bear.
As expected I spend the rest of the morning with her on the floor, playing with that doll, dressing and undressing her over and over, which makes me glad I managed to squeeze a quick workout in before Hailey woke up this morning, knowing I wouldn't have had time for that otherwise. At three o'clock the doorbell rings, my parents being the first guests to enter the house. Quick hugs, kisses and thoughtful birthday wishes are exchanged, before the two settle in the dining room, Hailey on my mom's lap. I don't get the chance to sit down as the bell goes off every two minutes.
When everybody is there, including my parents, Blake and her family, Selena, Gigi, Melissa, my brother and Tree, I set the cake on the table and offer everyone some coffee.
