"Your dad seemed as happy as ever."

Nico lifted his head from his knees to see Percy entered his bedroom. Percy had shut the door behind him and made his way over as Nico brought his legs down onto his bed, crossing them.

"He's just pissed that I got expelled again." Nico mumbled, looking at his hands and fiddling with them.
Percy sat down next to Nico on his bed.
"You didn't do anything wrong, Neeks." Percy shook his head, slightly scrunching up his nose. "That kid had it coming."

Nico looked up at Percy and Percy gave Nico a smile.
"You excited for your new high school?" Percy asked, gently nudging Nico in the arm with his elbow.
"... Thrilled." Nico said, making a face of dread towards Percy.
Percy couldn't help but laugh.

"You're gonna be okay. You've only been expelled twice. Do you know how many times I got expelled by the time I was your age?" Percy asked.
"Oh, a shit ton of times. Auntie Sally loves to talk about it with my dad." Nico smiled at Percy.
Percy frowned.
"... Well I don't think my mom loves to talk about it." Percy mumbled.

Nico bit his lower lip as he looked back at his hands and he began to fiddle with this silver skull ring around his finger.
"... You think I could ask you something? To distract me from my nerves?" Nico asked.
Percy looked at Nico, tilting his head curiously at him.
"Yeah, sure. You can ask me whatever, Neeks." Percy said.
Nico swallowed before he looked at Percy.

"You... You've always said that Annabeth is your other half." Nico stated. "Is... there a reason why?"
Percy blinked and he smiled.
"Simple! Because she's my soulmate!" Percy answered.
Nico scoffed, "soulmates aren't real."

Percy gasped dramatically as he ruffled Nico's hair.
"Are you telling me that my relationship with Annie isn't real!?" Percy exclaimed, grinning at Nico.
Nico scrunched up his face, smiling and laughing out softly as he shoved Percy's hand away.
"No! Of course not!" Nico exclaimed. "It's just..."
Nico trailed off, thinking about how to word his question.

Nico looked at Percy, holding eye contact with him.
"How did you know Annabeth was the one?" Nico asked softly.
Percy blinked, clearly taken by surprise by Nico's question.
"Sheesh... that's hard to explain, Neeks..." Percy said, rubbing his neck with his hand as he grinned sheepishly at Nico.
"Just... try your best, please." Nico pleaded, looking up at Percy with a curious gaze.

Percy hummed, thinking about it as he clasped his own hands together, using his thumbs to rub his skin gently.
"... Well, when I first met her, really." Percy said.
Nico studied Percy's expression as Percy looked at his hands. He was smiling to himself as he thought back to when he and Annabeth first met when they were fourteen. He looked like an idiot in love.

Nico wasn't super interested in love. I mean, maybe he would be more interested in love if his mother didn't die when he was a kid, and if his older sister didn't die when he was only ten years old. Maybe he'd be more interested in love if his father expressed his love for him more or talked to him about his experiences with his mother.

Nico didn't really like love, probably because majority of the people who Nico has ever loved have died.

"We met in the nurse's office at school because I fainted. She stayed in the nurse's office when she brought me down, to not leave me alone, and her first words to me when I woke up was, 'you drool your sleep'." Percy continued on. "I was... super embarrassed and quickly wiped the drool off my chin."
Nico noticed that Percy's smile just grew and his cheeks seemed a little red.

"We then just looked at each other and... as soon as we held eye contact, everything just felt as though it slowed down. I noticed her beautiful grey eyes and we just stared into each other's eyes." Percy said. "I mean... it lasted a few moments before Annabeth snapped us out of our state. We started talking, I noticed how beautiful she was and... when we spoke, it just... it felt natural."

Nico brought his knees back up and he rested his head on his knees as he looked at Percy and listened intently to him describing his experience with Annabeth.

"We didn't speak about the moment we shared. But we were instantly comfortable with talking to each other about anything. I mean, Annabeth began to talk about Greek mythology and I listened to her talk about her interest because I was interested and because I just... I loved the way she seemed so passionate talking about it." Percy smiled to himself, recalling how Annabeth's eyes shined so brightly when she spoke of Greek mythology.

"And when we got together, I said that we were soulmates and Annabeth agreed. Ever since then? We've just been happy. Annabeth and I helped each other through many rough moments in our lives and helped each other's lives become better. The universe guided us to each other. We both firmly believe we were meant to be."

Nico stared at Percy and Percy looked at Nico, smiling at him.
"I know you're interested in Greek mythology too. Have you heard of the myth about soulmates?" Percy asked.
Nico shook his head. Percy hummed and he tried to recall the myth.

"It was once believed that humans were whole, meaning that we had four arms, four legs, two heads, just basically double the parts that a regular person would have. So two people fused together were one whole person." Percy began. "They were soulmates, and one day the Gods  feared the power of humans. We had courage, strength and hope with our other half. And to eliminate this 'threat', Zeus split humans apart. A man and a woman. We were apart from our soulmates and left to roam the earth searching for our other half."

A small silence came between them.

"When you meet your soulmate, Nico, you'll feel whole around them." Percy said, looking at Nico. Percy placed his hand over his own chest, "you'll feel it here."
Nico hummed.

"I don't think... I don't think I'll meet my soulmate." Nico whispered quietly, looking away from Percy.
"... Why's that?" Percy tilted his head, frowning at Nico.
Nico stayed silent as he fiddled with his ring again. Percy's frown grew.

Percy sighed out softly and he wrapped his arm around Nico.
"Well, I believe that you will meet your soulmate. And I also believe that this new school will be better, that you'll be able to make friends easily unlike your other schools." Percy stated.
Nico made a face at Percy, raising his eyebrows, clearly not believing that that'll happen. That made Percy smile.

"You just gotta have a bit of hope, Neeks."

Hope. Nico can't recall when he last felt hopeful for something. He's accepted by now that this life was cruel.

A/N: I just wanted to add, if you didn't come here from the Percabeth fanfic, then this fanfic is a part of the same universe as my Percabeth fanfiction called 'Bonded Souls', so I suggest you read that as it is completed and it technically does come before this fanfic!

But yeah, this is my second Solangelo fanfic, I'm excited for how this'll turn out and I hope that this will be an enjoyable read! :)

Also, just real quick, this fanfic is only marked mature because in future chapters there will be a fight scene, dealing/grieving over the loss of family members, that sort of thing. There will also be some homophobia in this fic (guess what character shows up ajabajd). So, be warned now!
