Chapter 22

Nico arrived at the café a little too early from nerves. He messaged Will and Will did say that he was nearby, but it felt like a long time had passed by since then. Nico was tapping his fingers against the desk, biting his lower lip as he kept looking at the entrance of the café. He hadn't ordered anything yet, he decided to wait on Will.

The bell of the entrance rung and Nico's eyes lit up as Will entered. Nico saw that Will had a bouquet of flowers in his hand. Will glanced around and he instantly caught Nico's gaze, smiling brightly at him as he made his way over.

Will sat down across from Nico and held the bouquet of flowers towards Nico.
"Hello! And here are some lovely flowers for you, my lovely date." Will said.
Nico felt his cheeks warm up and he took the bouquet, smiling at Will. "Thank you, Will. They're beautiful." Nico said, looking at the bouquet and admiring them.

"Yeah, erm, only thing that sucks is that you'll have to carry them all day." Will said, watching as Nico set the bouquet at the side of the table.
"Eh, it's fine." Nico smiled, shrugging slightly.
"I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long either." Will grinned nervously.
"No, it's fine. Seriously." Nico said.

"We should order. And by we, I mean maybe you can order for the both of us because my social anxiety will kick in and make me freeze up?" Nico smiled innocently at Will.
Will rolled his eyes but smiled.
"Yeah, of course, Nico. What do you want, mmh?" Will asked, grabbing the menu and looking at it.
"Glass of lemonade and they have a really good bowl of spaghetti carbonara here, so... that please." Nico said.

"Mmhm, okay." Will nodded. "Right, I'll go up and order for us then. Sit tight."
Nico hummed in response as Will got up to go up to the counter. Nico kept an eye on Will as Will was up at the counter and he began to talk to a girl at the register. Nico felt a little nervous and he fiddled with the skull ring around his finger.

The girl seemed quite beautiful and she seemed to be around their age, maybe a year older. She smiled at Will and seemed to engage in small conversation with him. Nico didn't like how he felt that dread in his stomach, how he felt jealous. Nico decided to look away.

He shouldn't feel so jealous. I mean, he was the one on a date with Will. Plus, Nico didn't know if that girl was flirting with Will or not. Even if she was, Will wouldn't be interested in her because he was on a date with him and even admitted that they were soulmates.

Nico looked over and saw Will making his way back, smiling as he sat down across from Nico.
"Ordered and paid for!" Will exclaimed. "The girl at the counter said she'd bring over our food when it was ready."
Nico hummed, nodding.

Will furrowed his eyebrows, seeing that Nico wasn't holding eye contact with him.
"Neeks, everything okay?" Will asked.
"Yeah, fine, sorry." Nico managed to smile at Will. "Just got into my own head."
Will hummed.
"Well, talk to me if you need to get it out, okay? I'm happy to listen-" Will began.
"Will, I'm fine, I promise." Nico said.

"So, how far away is the botanical garden from here?"
"Oh, I think it's like a 20 minute walk over there? Could be longer, I'm not sure."
"Mmh, good thing we're eating now then. It'll give me the energy I need for all the walking that we're gonna do."

Nico and Will continued to chat. Will cracked a couple of jokes which made Nico smile and laugh at, which Nico's laughs and smiles made Will absolutely melt.

"Here are your drinks and meals!"
Nico and Will looked over to the girl who took Will's order. The girl set down the two glasses on lemonade, Nico was a little surprised Will also ordered lemonade, he expected Will to want a sweeter drink.

The girl held a bowl of the carbonara and she glanced between the two.
"So, who wanted the carbonara?" The girl asked.
"That would be him." Will said, smiling at Nico.
Nico smiled slightly at Will and the girl set down the carbonara in front of Nico.
"Thank you..." Nico said quietly, glancing at the girl.
The girl hummed in response and she placed a plate with a slice of chocolate cake in front of Will.
"And some cake for you!" The girl smiled at Will.
"Thank you." Will smiled at the girl.
