Nico stared at his ceiling in the dark.

He was supposed to be asleep, but his nerves were not helping. And he couldn't get his mind off of what Percy told him earlier.

Soulmates. What sort of nonsense is that?

Okay, yes, Percy mentioned that even Annabeth believes that she and him are soulmates, and even though Nico hasn't really spoken to Annabeth too much, she was really intelligent. Maybe it was real. Or maybe Annabeth and Percy were being teenagers sickly in love and thinking like any other teenager would when they're sickly in love with someone and dating them.

But... Nico couldn't get his mind off of the myth Percy spoke about.

"It was once believed that humans were whole, meaning that we had four arms, four legs, two heads, just basically double the parts that a regular person would have. So two people fused together were one whole person."

Imagine how creepy that would be? Being fused with someone, who is apparently your other half. Imagine having two heads, four arms, four legs. Nico shuddered at that thought, not liking it one bit.

"They were soulmates, and one day the Gods  feared the power of humans. We had courage, strength and hope with our other half. And to eliminate this 'threat', Zeus split humans apart. A man and a woman. We were apart from our soulmates and left to roam the earth searching for our other half."

Nico felt a strange tug at his heart.

'A man and a woman.'

Percy seemed to have forgotten that Nico was gay. Percy didn't seem to realise that's what Nico was really thinking about, especially when he said that he didn't think he'd ever meet his soulmate.

If every person who had a soulmate, who had another half, and that other half was the opposite gender... And once they found each other and reconnected, having a happy life together... Well...

Where did that leave Nico?

Nico snapped out of his thoughts and he rolled over to his side, curling up into a ball.

Ridiculous. Why was he even thinking about this? He didn't believe in soulmates. And if soulmates were real, then Nico simply wouldn't have a soulmate since he wasn't into women! Nico wasn't interested in love, so why was he even thinking about this?

Nico shut his eyes tight, trying to force himself to sleep. He had to get some sort of sleep before he started at this school. Plus he had to get up early to get his schedule and so he can make sure he won't be late to his first class and have to introduce himself to the entire class.

Nico tried to clear his mind to be able to fall asleep. But all his mind seemed to repeat was:

'A man and a woman, two halves of one whole human, where does that leave me?'
