We're only getting older

Adele's Pov:

Simon is not at home and I honestly don't know where he is.
It is nothing new not to find him at home when there are more important occasions, like my birthday.
My love will be up to something.

"Mummy?" Angelo called to me from his room as I was getting dressed in mine "where's Daddy?" He asked coming towards me.

"I don't know my love, I woke up and he wasn't in bed with me" I finished putting on my dress and took him in my arms.

"How about we phone him baby?" He put his arms around my neck.

"Ok mumma-" our conversation was interrupted by the ringing of my phone.

"Will it be daddy?" I looked at the phone and it was my mother, along with several notifications from my distant friends and relatives.

"Is it dad, mum?" She asked.

"No love it's grandma, can you press the green button for mummy? So we can talk to her" he happily did, and we started talking to my mother. Then I answered all the messages and numerous calls wishing me a happy birthday.

Everyone had called me, except my Simon...

He had not called me, which was strange because he was usually one of the first to wish me well. Evidently not today.

"Shall we go for breakfast my love?" I asked him.

"But mum, didn't dad call you?" I denied.

"I can try calling him, wait" so I video called him and indeed he answered.

"Ehy my love, good morning" he said and I smiled.

"How come you're already dressed? It's only 10am" he joked since I always get up late.

"Well today is a little different" I said with a smile.

"And why is that?" He asked, clearly confused.

What do you mean why?

"Well today, since it's a relatively special day, I'm going to have breakfast with my baby" I meanwhile stroked the cheek of Angelo, who was in my arms on the bed.

"Do you want to come honey?" I asked him.

"No my darling, I can't today, I'm working and it's going to be quite a busy day" He greeted Angelo in the meantime and blew him a kiss while my heart at that moment cracked.

Had he forgotten about my birthday? Simon never remembers dates, but he has always remembered my birthday perfectly.

"But Simon, I wanted to spend this day with you love, with you and peanut" I replied in a sad voice.

"Love, I promise I will take you out to dinner tomorrow, okay?"

"But why tomorrow? You should do it today" I replied a little angrier.

"Love but what does it matter if I take you tomorrow or today? These are days like any other, and I'm working today. I can't Delly, I'm sorry."

I shed a tear at that moment, but in any case I told him nothing. I simply moved the phone a little so I couldn't be seen.

"Alright, are you at least coming back for lunch?"

"No honey, don't expect me for lunch" the sadness increased.

"Ok, see you tonight then" I said simply.

"See you tonight love, I love you"

"Me too" I replied and threw down the phone.
