MY FAMILY AND I walk out to the backyard and everyone was out here mingling. mr.holton invited a little more people, but it was still a small group. i walk over to my friends and see a different face.

"hi everyone, happy new year's eve" i say.

"happy new years eve!"

i sat next to nathan and jimena and leah was sitting next to the girl.

"this is a friend of lucas, her names evelyn" she introduced.

oh coool....

"hi evelyn, i'm rosalie" i say.

her face changed to a serious face when i introduced who i was.

"you're rosalie?" she asks.

"yeah" i chuckled.

"nice to meet you" she fake smiled.

someone was walking around with a tray of alcohol, so i grabbed one and sat back down.

"leah who are these people that your dad invited?" i asked.

she shrugged. "some of friends from his job and then i dont know"

"hey, i'll be back" evelyn informed.

i watched as she walked away and when she was out of my sight i decided to speak up.

"who is that?" i asked.

"lucas's friend? or shall i say friends with benefits" leah laughed. "he started to bring her around and introduce her as "his bestie friend". but we all knew he was messing with her".

"when has this started?" i say.

"this year? i wanna say 3 months after you guys broke up" she replies.

he claimed how i moved on fast, but he didn't waste no time for a booty call? hm.

"oh cool i guess" i laughed.

i didnt let it bother me though, it was things in the past and i wanted it to keep it that way. i wanted to recover my relationship with milo.

"you guys wanna play beer pong? i see a table over there and a pile of cups there" nathan points.

"yeah, sure. beats time until the countdown" i say.

THE GIRL OR "EVELYN" never returned with us, we assumed she was with someone else. that someone else being "lucas", which he was also nowhere to be found.

i teamed with leah for beer pong, and nate with jimena. we played for an hour until we got bored and started talking to other people. i got to know nate's family more and realized how much he was like his mom. his mother told me how much she loves jimena for nathan, as if they were a perfect couple.

eventually, the countdown was any second now, and we were running around to look for sparklers.

"rose! i have some!" hayley shouts. she gives me and everyone one sparkler each and lights them.

we were right on time for the countdown and i was so excited.

"5....4....3....2....1.....happy new year!"

we welcomed 2024 with lots and hugs and smiles. it was beautiful to come into a new year with the same friends and new friendships. i wouldn't want to change this for anything, they were all i needed.

I WALKED OVER TO LUCAS who was by himself. he was near the alcohol section, drink after drink. even if we were on bad terms, i wanted to say happy new year.

"hi lucas" i waved.

he looked over and seen that i was coming his direction. he put down his glass of scotch and gave me a wave.

"hey rose, happy new year" he smiled.

"happy new year" i say.

"look rosalie, i just wanna say i'm so sorry about the other day. i overreacted and i just didnt like the idea of you actually moving on. but you have every right to, i wasn't a good person and you deserve someone better" he claimed.

a formal apology is what i wanted to hear from him all along and i finally got it.

"i shouldn't be getting mad at you for finding someone else, when i cheated" he chuckled.

"it is funny when you think about it" i laughed. "this is good that we talk it out. i wanna leave this all in the past, but i wanna move on knowing we atleast ended on good terms you know?"

"yeah it is good" he smiled. "i guess it just hurts me seeing my first girlfriend move on and live her life without me."

that stinged a little.

"but it's how life is. you never know who your gonna end up with" i shrugged.

he looked at me for a moment and smiled. i know how he is and he thought of something.

"so who's this boyfriend? i wanna know."

"his name is milo, he's an up and coming actor and he's pretty cool. i'm sure he would be here tonight, but he's in europe filming a movie" i say.

"ah one of your kind" he laughed.

"yeah same category" i giggle. "he's an amazing person, he treats me well, and he's completely different than i am. but that's what i like, we never get bored of each other because we learn something new" i explain.

"i see your happy" he points out.

i am happy, but if only he knew.

"very" i smile.

he looks over my shoulder and i turn to see evelyn signing him to come over.

"well i guess we both have our people to be with" he says.

"yeah" i agreed.

"i'm glad we had this talk, i hope i see you again rose" he smiled, walking away.

as i walked towards the group, my phone started to vibrate from my purse. i quickly grab it and checked who it was.

my heart fell to the floor and i couldn't believe it. milo was calling me, instead of texting me he decided to call me. after almost 2 weeks, this was all i ever wanted to see on my phone screen.

.
