"And open!" Marjorie said, taking her hands off Reeces eyes.
"Wow." Reece said.

Marjorie had decorated the entire downstairs for Reece's birthday. She had a collection of presents on the kitchen island, along with two cards and roses. On the other side of the island was a birthday cake.

"You did this?" Reece said, taking in the view.
"Of course I did. It's your birthday!" Marjorie said, smiling big. "Before you say anything, I did not make the cake."
Reece laughed. "Good."

Marjorie playfully smacked Reece, even though Reece had the appropriate reaction. Marjorie couldn't be trusted in the kitchen.

"Open your gifts!!" Marjorie exclaimed.

Reece walked over the island and pulled a stool out to sit on. He opened the first one, a small present.

"A camera? Marjorie you shouldn't have." Reece said, smiling.
"Well, I know you love taking pictures. I figured you needed an actual camera to do so." Marjorie replied.

Reece grabbed the next present, a bigger one.

"New pots and pans. I needed new ones." Reece said.
"The best for my personal chef." Marjorie winked.
"And whisks, and spatulas. Wow gorgeous you've outdone yourself." Reece said, leaning over to kiss Marjorie.

Reece opened the final present, a heavy one, and the biggest one.

"Marjorie you didn't." Reece said, looking over at Marjorie.
"You bet your ass I did." Marjorie replied, smiling.
"A mini telescope?? A notebook to put my pictures and findings in?? Oh my god!!" Reece shouted.

Reece stood up and hugged Marjorie, kissing her several times.

"Marjorie you didn't have to do that. I love you so much it's not even funny." Reece kept kissing her.
"I know, darling. But it's your special day and you deserve it. I love you more." Marjorie replied.

Reece picked Marjorie up and spun her around.

"Open the cards my love. You'll want to see what's inside." Marjorie said, laughing.

Reece put Marjorie down and opened the first card, with 'Reece' written in cursive on the envelope.

Reece,

I know you hate birthdays, and how you never experienced a true birthday growing up. I'm hoping these gifts make your inner child happy. I am so grateful for you. I have never had a man treat me the way that you do. You are so kind, loving, caring, attentive, respectful..., you are so many good things. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe the love I have for you. I never believed in true love, or soulmates— and you have shown me that both of those things are real and they do exist. I know I didn't feel the same way about you in the beginning, but I am so glad I did end up falling for you. I thank my lucky stars every night for bringing me you. I love you to the moon and saturn, Reece Knight. You are my knight in shining armour.

Love forever,
Marjorie

Reece closed the card and set it down on the counter, taking deep breaths. Marjorie could hear faint sniffles coming from him. She took one hand and rubbed his back.

"I love you forever, gorgeous. You are incredible." Reece said, wiping his tears.
"I love you more, darling. Happy birthday." Marjorie said, hugging Reece.
"I also thank my lucky stars every night. I don't know what I would do if I never met you." Reece said, his voice slightly cracking.

Marjorie leaned up and kissed him, and holding him tighter.

"Is the next card going to make me sob as well?" Reece chuckled.
"Hmm, probably." Marjorie smiled.

Reece opened the next card, which had his name written on it again, but with different handwriting.

"Carly is out sick, so she wanted me to give this to you." Marjorie said, putting her hand on his shoulder.

Reece,

I don't want to get too emotional, but whatever. I am so glad I met you. You are truly like my work dad. You care for me so deeply, and not only me, but everyone else. I know you have had a tough childhood. But that made you stronger. You always tell me not to listen to parents when they make comments on my body. You give me confidence. You are amazing. Thank you for being you. I hope to find a love like yours and Marjorie's. You make everyone a better version of themselves. I love you Reece, even though I may not act like it or show it.

Love,
Carly, aka your work daughter

Reece put the card down and wiped a tear that fell from his eye. Marjorie hugged him tight, kissing him.

"Wow I didn't know Carly could be so sentimental." Reece smiled.
"Me neither." Marjorie said, rubbing his back.
"Can we have cake now? I need it after reading those beautifully written cards." Reece looked at Marjorie.
"Of course we can!" Marjorie smiled.

Marjorie grabbed a pack of candles out of the drawer and put them on the cake. She grabbed a lighter and started lighting them.

"Happy birthday to youuuu," Marjorie started singing.

Reece just smiled and shook his head. Marjorie finished singing and Reece blew out the candles. Marjorie cut Reece a piece of cake, and cut herself one too.

"Happy birthday, my love." Marjorie smiled, grabbing two forks.
"Thank you, babe." Reece smiled back at her.

Reece took a bite out of the cake, and looked over at Marjorie.

"And it's got my favorite filling. You know me so well." Reece said, letting out a content groan.
"Of course, anything for the birthday boy." Marjorie winked.
"Anything, you say?" Reece raised his eyebrow.
"For goodness sake, just eat the cake!" Marjorie exclaimed. "Not now. Later."
"Fine." Reece said.

Reece took a bit of the frosting on his finger, and flicked it on Marjorie's face.

"Seriously Reece." Marjorie rolled her eyes. "Two can play at that game."

Marjorie took some of her frosting and flicked it at Reece.

"Game on, Marge." Reece smirked.

Marjorie tackled Reece, trying to get more frosting on Reece. Reece just swooped her up in his arms.

"So unfair." Marjorie said, wrapping her arm over Reece.

Reece kissed the frosting off of Marjorie's lips.

"Wouldn't say it's unfair. Just made you so much sweeter." Reece winked.
"Whatever." Marjorie laughed.
