April didn't know what to do. June laid half awake. She could see blood dripping profusely from his arm where the bullet hit him. She hurriedly opened the medical kit in the car and did some first aid to stop the bleeding.
She reached for her phone and couldn't find any signal. Same for June's as well. Her anxiety increased by every passing minute. Will Roy and Dew be able to distract them and get help soon?
June looked in great pain and rapidly loosing consciousness. She couldn't just sit and wait there. At once she stepped on the pedal decided to come out of the forest and get help. Before she could go a few meters the car slided down in a deep muddy puddle and got stuck. After trying multiple times April gave up.
"June, June can you hear me?" She is trying to keep June from completely loosing consciousness. She could feel his body is colder and he lost a lot of blood and couldn't walk anymore.
April hugged tight June, her cheeks drenched in tears non stop.
Who were they that were deliberately attacking her? What is Roy doing there? Lot of unanswered questions. But all April could think as of now is how to save June.
"June, I will try to walk a bit and get a signal and will call for help okay?"
"No, no it's dangerous for you to go out alone in the forest, what if those attackers find you? No No.." June sighed heavily as he clutched his arm in pain.
"June, look at me, you are loosing lot of blood. The car is stuck. I need to get help, okay. You have to trust me. I won't go too far just as long as I can get the signal and will call for help alright?" April tried to coax him calmly but June resisted.
"June! If something were to happen to you and I just sit and watch that happen to you, I cannot live with it. I cannot live...without you".
Before April could complete her sentence June lost his consciousness completely.
"I will save you no matter what" April's eyes dead red as she planted a soft kiss on June's forehead and stepped out of the car.
The night cicada's chirped restlessly on an otherwise calm night. At a distance, howls of wolves can be heard vividly. Walking through such wilderness is not for the faint hearted.
But none of this mattered to April. All she could think of is June. His warm eyes, bright smile masked her vision. Earlier June dashed his way between April and attackers without a single thought. Luckily, he was only shot on his arm worse he could've shot at a critical place and died on spot. But June could care less about it. As April realized it she cursed his stupidity. Why he put himself in a serious trouble to save her?
As April ventured further in the lonely darkness "What is June to you?" Those words rang in her mind again.
This time she knew answer for it. When June departed for Winterford, April's days succumbed to a dull routine. She felt lost and uncertain about how to fill the void. That was until Ace and Maddy extended an invitation to join them at the racing circuit. As she slipped into the driver's seat and hit the gas, the rush of adrenaline coursing through her veins, Apirl's focus wasn't on the checkered flag - it was on June. She felt an overwhelming urge to catch up to him, as if the speed and roar of the engine were propelling her toward a reunion. With each sharp turn and straightaway, she was drawn closer to the memory of June, her heart racing in her chest like a revving engine, driving her forward.
She couldn't bear a few years without June and the thought of an entire life without him scared her to death at once.
Slowly she lost sight of the car as she forwaded to get help. All of a sudden she heard a commotion, group of footsteps nearby.
Did the attackers find them out? April's heart stopped for a second.
She has to think quick otherwise they will catch up to them in no time and June's life will be in grave danger. She has to stop them from reaching June no matter what.
It is her that they were after anyways, what if she goes to them first and they no need look for June. Then Roy and Dew will get help for June.
As absurd the thought of putting her life on line to save June is, April knows it is only way to save him now.
April fastened towards the sounds of foot steps ready to risk it all as long as she can save her June.
