𝟎𝟐𝟎. he's gone (not really)

YOU DIDN'T THINK IT WAS GOING to actually happen. at first it was just a warning, but an unlikely one to happen. now, it was happening and you couldn't make him stay no matter how hard you tried. matt had gotten a call from julia this morning that he had to attend a trip to new york the next day for work. your heart sank when matt informed you, knowing that he would be traveling with julia.

you were currently sitting on the bed in yours a matt's bedroom, watching matt throw some clothes into his suitcase. you knew he would only be gone for a week, but a week felt like too long to be away from him. especially because he was going to be with julia for that whole week.

"i don't want you to leave." you admitted as matt disappeared into the bathroom, grabbing a few things for his trip.

"i know, baby. i don't want to leave either, but i have no choice." matt sighed, walking out of the bathroom with his toiletries in hand. he knelt down to his suitcase that was on the floor and started organizing his clothes and other essentials in the luggage.

"just quit your job. let's be homeless together on the street! besides, i just finished my sophomore year of college, i could just leave now and not go back." you joked, earning a laugh from matt.

"whatever you want, pretty girl." matt looked up to you on the bed. you giggled, blushing slightly. "you know it hurts me just as much to leave you for a week. but i'm just a video call away, alright? i'll fill you in on everything." matt added.

"okay." you spoke, your voice barely above a whisper.

YOU WERE WOKEN UP TO SOFT whispers in your ear from your boyfriend softly calling your name. he was gently stroking your side with his agile fingers. your eyes slowly opened to meet matt's eyes, a little groan escaping your lips.

"hi, pretty girl." matt whispered. your eyes shut as you cuddled closer into matt's chest, wrapping your arms around him and burying your face in the crook of his neck. you knew it was four in the morning and matt had to get up to go for the airport, and it devastated you. matt let out a low chuckle, wrapping his arms around you in return and leaning his head down to press his lips gently against the top of your head. "i've gotta get ready to head to the airport, baby. julia is going to pick me up soon." matt sighed, his hand dipping underneath your shirt as he ran his hand up and down your back.

"mm, no." you grumbled, squeezing him tighter. "you can't go." you sighed, pressing a kiss to his collar bone.

"it'll go by fast, my love. i promise." matt spoke.

you and matt stayed and cuddled for a minute longer, giving each other soft kisses until matt knew he had to get up. he promised to give you one last kiss goodbye right before he left. the bed went cold once matt left your arms. you listened to the way he moved around the apartment, gathering his things and brushing his teeth. you didn't let yourself fall back asleep so you could take in every last second of matt's presence until he was gone.

a few minutes passed and before you knew it, matt was walking back into the bedroom and back over to you. a soft kiss placed on your forehead as you felt two palms press into the mattress on either sides of you. your eyes fluttered open to see matt hovering over you, his blue eyes looking down at you. you lifted your arms wrapping them around matt's neck, bringing him in closer to you.

your noses brushed against each others as matt slightly tilted his head up, capturing your lips in a final kiss. you kissed him back as if it was your last kiss with him, until matt's phone buzzed throughout the room with a text, knowing that was his sign to leave. "i'll see you soon, alright?" matt whispered, pulling away from your lips. you nodded, running your hand through his hair one last time.
