YOUR PHONE BUZZED SEVERAL TIMES BESIDE you on the desk, catching your attention as you tore your gaze away from your ongoing notes. you furrowed your eyebrows, seeing matt's contact popping up on your phone with a series of text messages from him. you gazed up to your professor then back down at your phone and picked it up, clicking on the messages that read: 'hi baby.' 'i have a surprise for you later tonight.' 'be ready for dinner at six. i'll meet you at home.' 'i love you, pretty girl.'
you giggled to yourself quietly, quickly sending a message back to matt. you wondered what the surprise was and where he was taking you for dinner? you and matt hadn't been on a date in months now so you knew this one was going to be special.
you tuned back into what your professor was explaining, then lifted your pen back into your hand and continued jotting down your notes in your notebook below.
matt smiled at your reply to his texts, chuckling softly then setting his phone back down onto his desk. he continued to scroll through the jewelry website in the rings section, not giving up on finding the perfect one for you. but yet, none of them caught matt's eye or spoke your name to him. he exhaled in frustration, his stomach tying into knots from his nervousness as he leaned back into his office chair.
"jesus christ, get it together, matt." he whispered to himself, dragging his hands over his face then running a hand through his hair. this whole engagement thing was stressing him out at this point, even though he knew how bad he wanted it. everything just needed to be perfect for you, because to matt, you were his perfect girl.
suddenly there was a section at the top of the website that caught his eye 'customize'. matt didn't hesitate, he moved his cursor up to the button and clicked on it to see he could choose a style of ring and get it customized on his own. "holy shit." matt mumbled under his breath, scrolling through all of his options. he knew this would be the perfect way to get you the perfect ring, but the prices weren't so perfect.
matt's jaw dropped once he saw the expenses, but then slowly closed once he realized this was only an engagement ring and it only had to be good enough; besides, matt knew you'd be happy with a piece of paper as a ring as long as it was from him.
he wasted no time on getting to work on creating the perfect ring for you. he tried many different jewels and even called marylou to help him decide on a few things until he knew the ring suited you. the only thing that was a problem was that the ring wouldn't be ready for a few days; for some reason, matt thought it would be ready in a few hours. he grunted, placing his order for the ring then leaning back into his office chair.
what was he going to do now? matt thought he might've just ruined the whole engagement plan. he even spent an hour on making the ring for his plan tonight to go to shit before it even happened.

YOU STRUTTED AROUND THE APARTMENT IN your heels, attempting to get ready as quickly as possible before matt got home. you had just finished doing your hair and makeup and now you were finishing putting on your dress which was a silky black dress the hugged all of your curves, with tiny white bows lining the hem of the dress at the bottom, and of course you paired your dress with white heels to match the bows. you knew matt was going to love your dress and you couldn't wait for him to see it once he got home.
currently, matt was on his way home from work and on the phone with marylou again to talk about the proposal.
"oh goodness, matt! i still just cannot believe you're going to propose to her." marylou couldn't stop smiling, bringing it up for the hundredth time. "i'm so happy for you two, and cannot wait to hear about her reaction."
