THE WARM GAZE OF YOUR FIANCE casted over to you from across the house. matt leaned his back against the wall, shifting his drink over to his opposite hand then slowly brought it up to his lips and took a long drink as his eyes never left you even if he was listening to his brother speak.

you looked perfect in his eyes, your skin glowing under the warm light in the kitchen as you talked to nick and another friend of yours, laughing and tilting your head back slightly as your hair spilled over your shoulders. even if you weren't looking directly at him, you could feel his comforting gaze on you, making you feel safe.

he grinned, slowly lowering the cup from his lips as he continued watching you laugh with your friends. he was so caught up on how perfect you looked he hadn't realized he had tuned out of what chris was talking about until his brother called out to him.

"matt? are you even listening to me, man?" he lightly nudged matt in his arm, quickly catching his attention as he tore his gaze away from you and met his brother's eyes.

"shit, sorry. what?" he asked as he lifted his hand that wasn't holding his drink and steadily ran his hand through his hair.

chris rolled his eyes, annoyed he had to repeat himself. "do you ever stop gawking over y/n?" he asked teasingly. "swear to god you're drooling." he tapped his chin, chuckling slightly.

matt quickly punched him in his arm. "shut the fuck up, idiot. you'll understand once you actually have a girlfriend." he defended.

chris grumbled as he glanced around your parents' house that was full of people for yours and matt's engagement party, grimacing as he realized how many people actually showed up to this thing. he thought it was a useless thing to do when you both could have just celebrated together instead of involving all of your family and friends to celebrate with you. "i cannot believe people actually showed up to this." he mumbled.

matt furrowed his eyebrows, confused. "what do ya' mean? we invited these people, and you're here so you cannot complain."

"alright, alright. but i guess i didn't expect this many people," he paused, taking another quick glance around the house. "like i know you guys were the shit in high school; i mean, everyone loved you and her but i didn't know you guys were this popular." he scoffed.

matt laughed, his head dipping down for a brief moment, then meeting chris's eyes again. "yeah, dude, everyone else in a relationship at that time always looked up to y/n and i for some reason. i still don't get it."

chris rolled his eyes again, knowing matt will never understand how others looked up to him. because chris saw it every day; no one could take their eyes off of you and matt, everyone wanted what you and matt had with each other. even if they got somewhere close to a relationship similar to yours, it would and could never be the same.

"LET ME SEE, LET ME SEE!" your girl friend squealed, reaching down for your hand. you giggled, lifting your hand as your friend held it in both of her hands, bringing it close to her face as she inspected the ring on your finger. "oh my god! it is stunning, y/n!"

"i know right? matt couldn't have gotten me a better ring." you exclaimed as your friend nodded and laughed. you had lost count of how many people have come up to you tonight and asked to see your ring. you thought your favorite reaction was your mom; she started crying the second you and matt walked into the house, thanking matt for making her daughter the happiest girl alive.
