Veronica and Natalie were pulled aside by Coach, they both had a pretty big hunch what it was about.
"The truth is, we might be out here for a little longer than expected. So, the rest of us are relying on you two, which means you need to rely on each other, once I don't see being an issue with you two. You understand?" The two girls nodded, Coach passed the gun out, handing it to Natalie.

With that, the two were off, they wandered around the never ending forest, keeping an eye out for any sign of wild life.
"Hey," Natalie grabbed Veronica's arm, "Can we just, sit for a minute?"
Veronica nodded, adjusting her sweater, then taking a seat against a tree.
Natalie took a seat beside her, not saying anything until Veronica pulled out her pack of cigarettes. She puts it between her lips, taking her lighter and lighting it, enjoying the feeling of her lungs being filled with the toxic smoke.
She takes another puff before handing it to Natalie, who took it with a grateful smile.
Natalie's smile drops when she takes notice of Veronica's wrist.

Natalie grasps at the girls wrist, making Veronica flinch.
"What the fuck, Natalie?"
Natalie doesn't respond, she moves down Veronica's sleeve, making the brunette more than aware of what she was doing.
"Natalie what the fuck?" she cried as she tried to tug her wrist out of the blondes grasp.
"Veronica-"
"Let me the fuck-"
"Just stop for a minute!" Natalie moves on the girls lap, straddling her to keep her from thrashing. "Just, let me see, please,"
Veronica sighed as she allowed Natalie to move her sleeve down, gently observing the fresh burn mark.
Natalie silently reached into her bag, grabbing a spare Band-Aid and come cream she took from the first aid kit, gently placing it on Veronica's skin.

"I thought I already told you, you were too pretty to be doing this to yourself?"
Veronica avoided her gaze, "You remember that conversation?"
"I may have been high, but I wasn't that high,"
Veronica sighed, "I'm sorry,"
Natalie used her fingers, lifting Veronica's chin up, making eye contact. "You, don't need to apologize for anything. Is this why you were gone for so long last night?"
"Yeah, yeah it was,"
"Please, please stop doing this to yourself. You don't deserve that kind of pain,"
Veronica just kept a neutral look on her face, not daring to let Natalie see her vulnerable.
Natalie climbed off the girls lap, pulling out a joint, lighting it, inhaling deeply before passing it to Veronica.

The two girls sat in silence for a moment, passing the joint back and forth.
"You know," Natalie began after a minute of silence, "I had a dream about the crash after you came back. Everyone was all bloody and covered in ash, but you were still nice and pretty,"
Veronica smiled, "You think I'm pretty?"
"I think we've already established this a couple times,"
"I think you're pretty too, Nat,"
Natalie smiled, her eyes widening when she spotted a deer.
Veronica looked over, carefully grabbing the gun, passing it to Natalie.

Natalie carefully raised and positioned the gun, she felt that familiar shakiness she felt earlier as memories swarmed back into her mind.

There 15 year old Natalie stood, gun pointed at her father.
Tears were welling in her eyes, ready to stream down her face, but she held a firm, stone-cold glare masking her fear and sadness.
"Here she is. My little girl who cried when she killed a fucking turkey. What're you gonna do? What're you gonna do baby? You gonna shoot your daddy in the head? "
Angry tears streamed down her face, and she pulled the trigger, but nothing happened.
Nothing fucking happened.
Fear washed over the young girl

Natalie carefully switched the safety off, Veronica stood behind, watching closely.

"Looks like you got the safety on" her father grabbed the gun roughly from his daughters hands.
Natalie couldn't help but let the tears fall down her face as her angry father now held the gun.
"Here, let me show you, okay, baby? Look. On. Off. See Sweetie? On. Off, baby girl. Just like that. On, off.

"Breathe Nat, you got this, just keep breathing" Veronica softly encouraged, making Natalie feel a sense of relief as tears welled in her eyes at the memories.
She stared at the deer for a few more seconds, fighting the tears, but taking a breath.
"There you go, you got it Nat,"

"It's perfectly okay to keep a gun in the house, if your kids too stupid to know how to use it."

Natalie's mother let out a cry from the hallway floor, "Shut up!" her father screamed before turning his attention back to Natalie.
"I never thought you could be more useless than your mother, but guess what, Honey? You just won that fucking contest." he walked outside.
Natalie felt rage overwhelm her, coursing through her entire body.
"You're the fucking useless one!" she screamed, instantly regretting it.
Her father turned around quickly, "What the fuck did you say-"

Natalie watched in horror as her father stumbled, accidently pulling the trigger.
Tears streamed down Natalie's face as her fathers head practically blew up in front of her.

Natalie pulled the trigger, shooting the deer with tears streaming down her face.
The duo hesitantly walked up the the deer, Natalie softly petting it's fur.

Natalie watched as her mother sobbed over her dead husbands body.
She just continued to stare numbly, not being able to move or say anything.

"You did it, Nat, I'm so proud of you," she gently takes Natalie's hand, Natalie gave Veronica's hand a squeeze.
"Thank you, Ronnie,"
"Come on, lets get this thing back to the group,"

The duo then brought it back to the cabin, Van shooting up and cheering.
"Nice work you two," Coach complimented.
"It was all Natalie, she did an amazing job out there" Veronica helped Natalie set it down on the ground.
The bleach blonde girl smiled as everyone complimented her.
"So, what do we do with it now?" Natalie asks.
"First thing we have to do is bleed it out," Coach replies holding out a knife, "Who wants to try?"
"I'll give it a try" Shauna replies, grabbing the knife.

Veronica watched as Shauna slit the deer's throat, the blood pooling out of the corpse.
A sense of relief washed over Veronica as she realized the group wouldn't be going hungry.
