ELENA'S POV :

The lacrosse game started several minutes ago. Allison was able to get the keys to her grandfather's office. Stiles being as usual on the bench, we both head into the parking lot. We were about to head inside when my hearing detects a person crying. Lydia. I move towards the car but Stiles holds me back.

"What are you doing ? We have to find this book !"

Obviously, he doesn't hear crying unlike me. "I won't be long. Take the keys and go get it. I'll join you as soon as possible."

He leaves and I head towards Lydia's car. "Hey, what's wrong ?" I ask the redhead.

"Nothing, I'm great."

"Lydia, please open the door. I can see that things aren't going well, stop pretending otherwise. I will never judge you, you know that. You're my best friend so let me help you. That's what I'm here for."

She looks at me for a second and wipes her tears before unlocking the car. I go around it and get in the passenger seat. "Don't tell Allison I said that," I joke.

She lets out a slight chuckle, which makes me smile. I much prefer seeing her like this. We stay in silence for a moment. Time to let her have a moment in her bubble of thought with a comforting presence by her side. I don't want to rush her and I'm well aware that with this thing that commits murders when it feels like it, I've neglected her a bit lately. She has more options than Allison and I. So I spend more time with the brunette at school. Yet it's the most convincing time to avoid the supernatural and problems.

"You're going to think I'm crazy," she finally says.

"Believe me. Nothing you can say will make me think you are." I see the hesitation in her eyes. "And if you don't want to tell me then we can talk about something else and you'll tell me when you're ready ?"

She turns to me with a small smile. "Thank you."

"You don't have to thank me. So what do you want us to talk about ?"

Ultimately talking to Lydia took me a lot longer than expected. Not only has the game already been over for a while, but I don't see Stiles when I get to the principal's office. I'm really the worst friend ever. Never there at the right time. The keys are still in the lock, but I have no idea where he could have gone.

I searched, but I couldn't find any newspapers. No old books or anything that could make you think of a bestiary. My attention goes to the key ring or rather the USB key attached to them. After all, hunters also have to evolve with the times.

I open the office computer and insert it. A file opens and dozens of pages appear with creatures, each more different than the last, as well as information about each one written in archaic Latin.
