READER'S POV
After Dylan and I looked around Skyhold, he went to explore and play with his friends while I decided to take a break since my side is starting to play up again. To pass the time, I decided to catch up with my companions to see how they were faring after the attack on Haven. Sera is a bit freaked out after finding out that we were fighting a Darkspawn, Solas and Vivienne were arguing about Cole staying with us but, I managed to convince them to let him stay. I mean he did help save my life after all and I know he's a bit odd but its like I always tell my brother; being different isn't always a bad thing, it just makes you special.
I rubbed my side as I felt it flaring up again before I spotted Cullen working away as usual. I smiled at him and approached him while he gave commands to the men.
"Send men to scout the area. We need to know what's out there."
"Yes ser!" The scout spoke before she and her companion left. Another one showed up and told Cullen.
"Commander, soldiers have been assigned temporary quarters."
"Very good, I'll need an update on the armory as well," Cullen told him while the scout scratched his chest for a moment.
"Now!" Cullen shouted before the scout left.
I approached Cullen and he saw me coming before I said to him, "Working hard as usual, Cullen?"
"We set up as best as we could at Haven, but could never prepare for an archdemon...or whatever it was. With some warning, we might have..." Cullen trailed off.
"We were all shaken by what happened."
"If Corypheus strikes again, we may not be able to withdraw...and I wouldn't want to. We must be ready. Work on Skyhold is underway. Guard rotations established. We should have everything on course within the week. We will not run from here, Inquisitor."
"How many were lost?" I asked as I recalled the number of people we couldn't save back then.
"Most of our people made it to Skyhold. It could have been worse. Morale was low, but has improved greatly since you accepted the role of Inquisitor."
I looked away and said, "Everyone has so much faith in my leadership. I hope I'm ready."
"You won't have to carry the Inquisition alone. Although it must feel like it. We needed a leader; you have proven yourself."
"Thank you, Cullen," I smiled at him and he smiled back.
"Our escape from Haven, it was close. I'm relieved that you - that so many made it out," I spoke while blushing a little.
"As am I," Cullen spoke softly before glancing at the bandages that are around my forehead and peaking out from my sleeves.
We stood there in an awkard silence for a moment before I turned to leave. Just then, he gently grabbed my wrist to stop me. I turned to look at him and he said, "You stayed behind, you could have...I will not allow the events at Haven to happen again. You have my word."
I could feel my heart skip a beat when he said this before he released my wrist and got back to work.
"Oh...and one more thing."
"Hm?"
Cullen glanced at my hair and said, "You should maybe consider...leaving your hair down when you're not out there fighting demons...it looks nicer when it's not tied back.
I blushed when he gave me that compliment and I nodded my head.
"I'll uh...keep that in mind," I told him before I walked away to let Cullen get back to work.
