Chapter 25.
We are, we are, running through the trees,
Sprinting towards a flag, that's as orange as can be...
Strange things have happened here, in this arena you'll agree...
When we kissed, late night, up in the lookout tree...
This wolf, D.N.A, is coursing through my blood,
Enhancing all my senses, and making my heart thud...
Strange things have happened here, is something starting to budd...
When we kissed, late night, as the moon shone from above...
I look, at you, and you look back at me,
We're almost at out goal, this could be a victory...
I don't know if we'll win, or if we'll have to flee...
But I hope, I'll end up, in your final three...
"Luke." I whisper, as the two of us come to a stop in the shadows of the buildings a couple of blocks away from the stadium. We're waiting on Mia and Natalie, as I only sounded our chicken call a few seconds before stopping so they can come and meet up with us.
"What's up?" He replies through soft breaths, echoing my own. The two of us aren't out of breath at all from our run, thanks to this D.N.A. which means we can remain pretty stealthy in these shadows.
"We should probably load these up."
I take a round of paintballs from my ammo belt and try to quietly click them into my guns' chamber. Luke does the same, and the two of us share a relieved glance when we're all ready to go.
A few seconds later I hear a slight movement and the night vision our new D.N.A. has given us allows me to easily make out the figures of Mia and Natalie in the darkness.
Natalie gives Luke and I a thumbs up and the two of them dash over to us.
"Right, what's our plan?" Mia asks.
"Uh, we've got to get that flag, I guess. How many distractions do we need?" I reply.
"I think only one of us should get the flag, we need as much distraction as we can get." Luke interjects.
Mia nods in agreement, "Sounds good, well I don't really want to get it, it's so high up..."
"Bags not." Natalie adds.
Luke looks to me, "You keen, Jayson?"
"What?!" I gasp, "Me?! I'm not cut out for scaling the highest point of a stadium! Why don't you do it?"
Luke shrugs, "I don't think I'd be the best candidate for the job." He places his hand on my shoulder and gives it a light squeeze, "Plus, I believe in you."
