The evening was quiet as Taylor and Travis settled into the cozy living room of Jason and Kylie's home. Wyatt, the couple's adorable toddler, had finally drifted off to sleep after a bedtime story marathon. The house was calm, with only the sound of the dishwasher humming softly in the kitchen.
Taylor, a bit of a perfectionist, was tidying up the living room, straightening the cushions and picking up stray toys. Travis, on the other hand, was sprawled comfortably on the couch, flipping through channels to find something to watch. He glanced at Taylor, smiling as he watched her flit about the room.
"You know, you don't have to clean everything," Travis teased, his voice warm with affection. "Jason and Kylie won't notice a stray toy or two."
Taylor shot him a playful glare. "I just like things neat," she replied, placing the last toy into the basket. "Besides, it's nice to leave things the way we found them."
Travis chuckled, shaking his head. "You're too good for this world, Taylor."
She rolled her eyes but couldn't hide the smile tugging at her lips. She walked over to the couch and sat down beside him, her shoulder brushing against his. For a moment, they sat in comfortable silence, the dim lighting casting a warm glow around the room.
Travis shifted closer, his hand finding hers on the cushion. He intertwined their fingers, the simple touch sending a pleasant shiver down Taylor's spine. "You know," he started, his voice low, "I think tonight went pretty well. Wyatt didn't even put up a fight about going to bed."
Taylor nodded, leaning her head against his shoulder. "Yeah, she's a good kid. It's nice to have these quiet moments too."
They both looked towards the hallway, where Wyatt's room was, the door cracked slightly open. The house felt peaceful, a stark contrast to their usually hectic days.
Travis turned back to Taylor, his expression growing more serious. "I've been meaning to talk to you about something," he said, squeezing her hand gently.
Taylor raised an eyebrow, intrigued but slightly anxious. "Oh? What's on your mind?"
He took a deep breath, his gaze meeting hers with a sincerity that made her heart flutter. "I've really enjoyed spending time with you, not just babysitting, but... everything. You're amazing with Wyatt, and I love seeing how caring and thoughtful you are. It's one of the things I really like about you."
Taylor felt her cheeks warm, a blush creeping up her neck. "Travis, I—"
Before she could finish, he continued, his words pouring out. "I guess what I'm trying to say is, I like you, Taylor. A lot. More than just as a friend or babysitting partner."
Taylor's breath caught in her throat. The confession hung in the air, the weight of the moment settling between them. She looked into his eyes, seeing the vulnerability and hope there, and felt her own heart swell.
A slow smile spread across her face, and she leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. "I like you too, Travis," she whispered, her voice steady despite the butterflies in her stomach. "I've been hoping you'd say something."
Travis grinned, relief and happiness washing over him. He gently cupped her face, his thumb brushing her cheek. "Well, I'm glad I finally did."
They shared a tender kiss, the kind that felt like a promise of more to come. As they pulled away, both of them were beaming, the earlier awkwardness replaced by a newfound warmth and understanding.
Just then, a soft noise came from the hallway. They turned to see Wyatt standing in the doorway, rubbing her eyes sleepily. "What are you guys doing?" she mumbled, clutching her stuffed dinosaur.
Taylor and Travis exchanged a quick, sheepish glance before Taylor stood up and went over to Wyatt. "Just talking, sweetie," she said gently. "Did we wake you up?"
Wyatt shook her head, looking up at Taylor with sleepy confusion. "I heard something," she said, her voice barely a whisper.
Taylor knelt down to her level, her expression soft. "It's okay, Wyatt. How about we get you back to bed?"
Wyatt nodded, yawning. Taylor took her hand and led her back to her room, Travis following behind. They tucked her back in, making sure she was comfortable. Wyatt snuggled down into her blankets, clutching her dinosaur tightly.
As they left the room, Taylor and Travis exchanged another glance, this one filled with the excitement of new beginnings.
