The next few days passed in a blur of rehearsals and studio sessions for Taylor, while Travis was busy with his training schedule. They kept in touch through text messages, their conversations a blend of mundane updates and heartfelt confessions. But the secrecy was taking its toll.
One evening, as Taylor was finishing up in the studio, she received a call from Austin. He sounded excited, insisting she come over for dinner. Curious and a little worried, Taylor agreed. When she arrived, she was surprised to find Travis already there, sitting at the dining table with a sheepish smile.
"What's going on?" Taylor asked, looking between the two men.
Austin grinned, clearly pleased with himself. "I thought it would be great to have a little family dinner. Just us three, like old times. Plus, I have some exciting news to share."
Taylor felt a knot form in her stomach. She couldn't shake the feeling that this spontaneous dinner had an ulterior motive, especially with the way Travis was avoiding her eyes.
As they sat down to eat, Austin launched into his news. "So, I met someone," he announced, a grin spreading across his face. "She's amazing, and I really think you guys will like her. I wanted to get your opinions before I introduced her to the family."
Relief washed over Taylor. It wasn't about them. She smiled, genuinely happy for her brother. "That's great, Austin! What's her name?"
"Her name's Emma," Austin replied, his eyes lighting up. "We met at a gallery opening last month. I think she's the one, Tay. I want you to meet her."
Travis, who had been quietly eating, finally spoke up. "That's awesome, man. I'm happy for you."
Taylor nodded, her heart warming at the sight of her brother so happy. "I can't wait to meet her," she said sincerely.
The rest of the dinner passed smoothly, with Austin gushing about Emma and making plans for everyone to meet her. But as the evening drew to a close and Austin excused himself to take a call from Emma, Taylor and Travis were left alone.
Travis sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "That was close," he murmured.
Taylor nodded, feeling the weight of their secret more heavily than ever. "Yeah. I thought he was going to say he knew about us."
Travis looked at her, his expression serious. "Taylor, we need to tell him soon. It's not fair to him, and it's eating me up inside."
Taylor looked down, biting her lip. She knew he was right, but the thought of potentially hurting her brother scared her. "I know. I just don't want to ruin anything."
Travis reached out, gently lifting her chin so she would look at him. "Hey, we'll be okay. We just need to be honest with him. He deserves to know."
Taylor nodded, her resolve strengthening. "Okay. We'll tell him. Soon."
Just then, Austin reentered the room, a big smile on his face. "Emma says hi," he said, sitting back down. "So, what did I miss?"
Taylor and Travis shared a look, a silent agreement passing between them. They would tell him, but tonight wasn't the night. For now, they'd enjoy the simple joy of being together, even if it was in secret.
As they wrapped up the evening, Taylor hugged her brother tightly. "I'm happy for you, Aus. You deserve to be happy."
Austin smiled, hugging her back. "You too, Tay. You deserve the best."
As Taylor pulled away, she glanced at Travis, who gave her a reassuring nod. They would tell him. But for now, they'd keep navigating these hidden harmonies, hoping the truth would bring them closer, not tear them apart.
