41. Ring Ring

[Levi's Apartment -
8:15 p.m.]

The muffled jingle of keys from the hallway could be heard inside of Levi's apartment. The door opened with the slightest creak, and soft footsteps entered. Levi released a deep sigh as he quietly shut the door. He turned around and stood for a moment to take in the scenery of his safe, comfortable space. A much needed feeling of relief after the worrisome day he had.

Levi inhaled and instantly took in a citrus fresh scent. A scent he could easily recognize as that of his favorite cleaning products. He noticed every single surface was spotless and shining. The shelves and desks were dusted. Every book in the bookcase was placed in an orderly fashion. The wood floor seemed to glisten as if it had been swept and mopped recently. He could practically see the outline of his figure reflecting off of the dark oak flooring.

His eyes narrowed for a moment as he studied the room, highly impressed at the deep cleaning job. Those same eyes softened as soon as he caught a glimpse of a sleeping woman's form on the sofa. [Y/N] did this? Why? Levi tip-toed over to her figure, curled up, and laying on her side. He cautiously lifted the throw blanket from the floor, which had partially fallen off, and pulled it up over her body.. careful not to wake her.

He hovered over her, taking in the tranquility she radiated. He let his guard down for a short second.. letting the smallest of sweet upturned corners bless his lips. Peacefulness. Something they both needed, but recently, only seemed to get in one another's presence. It was a feeling Levi couldn't quite explain, but he knew he enjoyed it. He enjoyed the little moments with her, near her. Hell, maybe part of him enjoyed the hectic moments as well. Just the idea that she felt the same way as him didn't even seem possible. The only issue was.. she still wasn't completely his. She was still technically Zeke's.. but he understood why, and they both agreed to this plan.

Things have been crazy recently.. but thanks to the doctor and this magical pill, he was now hopeful of the possibility of making more memories together. The idea of these episodes randomly taking his life was a thing of the past. That is.. as long as they worked properly, of course. Levi was aware he was basically a test subject for these pills, but for some strange reason, he trusted Grisha. He was able to easily sense the honesty in his voice. Kenny also added that the doctor had always been a good man, despite how things originally looked. So what did Levi have to lose? It was clearly a risk worth taking.

Levi made his way to the kitchen area and grabbed a half empty box of cigarettes from the counter. It's been almost a week, and he's barely touched them. Surprisingly, they didn't seem to give him the same satisfaction anymore. That, and he's also been very distracted. I guess I've had other ways of dealing with my stress the past few days.

He scoffed mentally and shook his head as he also happened to notice the unopened pack of condoms sitting on the counter. He was never one for unprotected sex. The idea of all of the bacteria, diseases, and of course pregnancy.. worried him. They both agreed to start using them. In the heat of the moment, though, it just always seemed to slip his mind. Careless.. something Levi rarely was. It appeared risk-taking was the norm for him now.

Pulling a cigarette out of the pack and placing the small box in his hoodie pouch, Levi then made his way to the sliding glass door that led to the balcony. He was hit with a blast of cold air as he tried his best to slide the door open gently. He pulled his black hood over his head, snuck out into the darkness through the cracked opening, and shut the door. Not even realizing it, the door slammed a bit, startling the young woman nestled on the sofa.
