The hallway was buzzing with the usual morning chaos—students rushing to classes, lockers slamming, and the faint chatter of gossip and weekend plans. I was standing at my locker, flipping through my notebooks, when I heard someone call my name. I glanced up to see David approaching with his confident swagger, a smile on his face that made it clear he had something on his mind.

"Hey, Y/N," David greeted, leaning against the locker next to mine. "Got a minute?"

I raised an eyebrow, half-surprised. "Uh, sure. What's up?"

"I was wondering... there's this new movie coming out on Friday, and I thought it'd be cool if you and I went to see it together. You know, like... a date."

I blinked, caught off guard. I barely knew David outside of our shared English class, but he was nice enough—and definitely cute. Still, before I could even process my answer, C/N appeared at my side, his presence instantly grounding me.

"Hey, what's going on here?" C/N asked, his eyes darting suspiciously between David and me.

David didn't seem fazed. He just flashed C/N a polite smile before turning back to me. "I was asking Y/N out. What do you say?"

C/N let out a low chuckle, cutting in before I could respond. "David, right? Yeah, I'm gonna have to say no on her behalf."

I shot him a look. "C/N, seriously?"

But he was already in full-on protective mode, crossing his arms and stepping closer, as if he could physically block David's words. "Listen, man, it's not personal, but Y/N here is, like, allergic to bad movies. And that flick? Terrible reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gave it, what, like 20%?"

David blinked, taken aback. "It's not about the movie, man. I just want to spend time with her."

"Right," C/N said, drawing out the word as if he was considering the idea seriously. "But Y/N's schedule is packed. Super busy. You know, doing... homework, hanging out with her best friend, avoiding terrible first dates."

I tried to stifle a laugh, nudging C/N's side. "You're ridiculous."

David looked between us, clearly getting the hint, but trying one last time. "Look, if you want to go, let me know. No pressure."

I nodded, feeling awkward under both their gazes. "Thanks, David. I'll think about it."

As David walked away, C/N turned to me, looking far too pleased with himself. "You're welcome."

I folded my arms, giving him a pointed look. "What was that about?"

He shrugged nonchalantly. "Just looking out for you. David's a walking red flag."

"Oh really? And why is that?" I challenged, half-amused and half-annoyed.

"For starters, he always talks about himself. Remember when he hijacked the whole English class to tell us about his summer in Florida? And then there's his terrible taste in movies, which we've covered."

"C/N, those are not valid reasons," I laughed, rolling my eyes. "You're being a little ridiculous."

C/N leaned closer, his voice dropping to a mock-conspiratorial whisper. "He also has a really annoying laugh. You'd be miserable."

I couldn't help but smile. "Maybe I'd like his laugh."

"You wouldn't," C/N said with a certainty that was almost endearing. "Plus, he doesn't know you like I do. You hate the movie theater popcorn. You'd never wear a dress on a first date. And you get super nervous when someone tries to hold your hand in public."
