The day had started off on the wrong foot. I woke up late, rushing through my morning routine to make it to work on time. In my haste, I spilled coffee all over my favorite blouse and my car, a large brown stain spreading across the fabric. With no time to change, I had to wear my jacket all day to hide the mess.

Things only got worse from there. As I hurried into the office, the heel of my shoe snapped, leaving me hobbling awkwardly. I managed to find an old pair of flats at the back of my desk drawer, but the damage to my mood was done.

By the time evening rolled around, I was exhausted and frazzled, but I still held out hope that the party would be a chance to relax and forget about the day's disasters. The evening started well enough, with the chatter of friends, the clinking of glasses, and the warm glow of the lights almost distracting me from my troubles. Almost.

As I arrived, C/N was the first person to greet me. He flashed me a warm smile, and for a moment, my spirits lifted.

"Hey, you made it!" he said enthusiastically.

"Yeah, I did," I replied, trying to match his energy but feeling my patience thin.

"Rough day?" he asked, noticing my forced smile.

"You could say that," I responded, a bit more curtly than I intended. I saw the brief flicker of surprise on his face but quickly softened my tone. "But it's getting better now."

He nodded, seeming to understand. "Well, I'm glad you're here. The party just got a lot more interesting." He looks me up and down, "You look good, N/N."

I couldn't help but laugh. "Flattery will get you everywhere."

"Good to know," he said with a wink. "So, what's the plan for turning your day around?"

"Maybe some good conversation and a little dancing?" I suggested, feeling a bit bolder.

"Sounds perfect," he replied, offering his hand. "Shall we?"

"Maybe in a little bit. I'm going to find BSF/N first." I open my jacket to show him the stain and he winces.

"Well I'm here when you need me." He smiles before walking away. I gave him a small, grateful smile before moving to join the rest of the group. But the reprieve was short-lived.

As I took a seat at the table, someone made a snide comment about my disheveled appearance. "Did you roll out of bed and come straight here?"

Laughter followed the remark, and I felt my temper flare. It had been a long day, and I was at my breaking point.

"Y/N! You're here!" My best friend squeals, pulling me aside. She then whispers, "What happened to you?"

"What hasn't happened?" I reply with a groan. "Can I borrow some clothes? Please!" I beg.

"Yeah of course." She brings me to her room and pulls out a dress.

"I borrowed this from you ages ago." She tosses it at me and I head to the bathroom to change.

As the evening wore on, I noticed C/N laughing and chatting with someone else—a girl who seemed to capture his full attention. Every glance, every smile he directed her way felt like a dagger to my already fragile heart. It didn't help that she was effortlessly beautiful and confident, everything I felt I wasn't in that moment.
