NOTES
the note may or may not be based the note my mother left me~~
Eighteen years old, Lizia was finally old enough to leave the hellhole she'd called home for so long. It was bittersweet. On one hand, she was leaving behind the siblings she'd pretty much raised. On the other...
Emelise had gotten drunk at Lizia's party. The two argued. One day. Just one fucking day Emelise could've at least tried to stay sober. But no. She had to ruin Lizia's day.
So, they fought. It ended with Emelise slapping Lizia. So, she calmly left the venue and went home.
Which brings us to now. Lizia was going through her things, packing the essentials. As she put things in her suitcase, she found a piece of paper, folded up and tucked away in her sock drawer. It was yellowed with age, the ink fading. Written on it was two simple words.
For Lizia.
She picked it up and read it.
~~
Dear Lizia,
I love you more than you will ever know. Each passing day you amaze me more and more. My life changed completely the day I held you in my arms for the first time. I have yet to find something as precious as you. I love you more than life itself and Mama will always be here for you no matter what, even when I'm not there.
Always in my ❤️,
Mama~~
Tears welled in Lizia's eyes. She knew what note it was, and why it was hidden away. It was what Emelise had left behind when she went away to America.
Lizia was six, maybe seven. The twins were barely a week old. Emelise had called Biagio over to watch the kids "for a night" while she went and took a night to herself. Well, the next day, Emelise didn't come back. Or the day after that. In fact, she was gone for three years.
Three years.
All that time, Lizia and Biagio raised the kids, including Anton. All that time, everyone thought she was dead.
Nearly a month had passed before Lizia found the note. It was tucked away in her sock drawer. She nearly ripped it up when she found it. It seemed like a cruel joke. "Always in my heart."
Lizia showed it to Biagio. He started crying. When Lizia got older, he'd tell her it was because he thought it was a suicide note.
In the back of her little mind, Lizia thought the note meant Emelise was dead, too.
Then three years later, Emelise came back with that stupid little runt, Jadey. She'd left Lizia, Ancion, Harus, Fenla, Tala, Wes, and Ro, then went and had another child.
Lizia was ten when Emelise came back. The worst part was, she wasn't happy to see her. She was rather upset to know that she was even alive.
Now Lizia was eighteen. Still in her childhood room, though now she was packing to finally leave.
She slid to the floor, tears in her eyes. She ripped up the note and threw it. The pieces floated to the ground.
She screamed.
Staring up at her from the ground was her name, in Emelise's handwriting.
For Lizia.
