After we bid our goodbyes Kakashi and I started the long walk back to the village.
After around ten minutes though I stopped.
He stopped too a step ahead of me.
I pull him into another tight hug.
He responds quickly and hugs me back but not as tight.
I peer at his face. I frown.
"I don't think I'll ever be able to leave your side again." I say honestly.
He smiles and laughs at little.
"You can tell me all about it when we are back in those walls." He says leading me by my arm back onto the path.
I loop my arm in his and we walk side by side back to the village.
Once we arrive at the gate I am stopped.
"Kakashi? And ma'am?" A guard asks.
"We will sort it out with lady hokage." Kakashi says and gives the man a thumbs up.
"Tomorrow." He says lowly to me.
I laugh.
We reach the familiar apartment.
I walk in and sigh in relief.
"I really missed this place." I say looking around.
"That's a nice thing to say." He says walking past me and into the kitchen.
I trail behind him.
"I wasn't kidding earlier. I'm gonna need a lot of attention from you or else I'll glue myself to your side." I say leaning my head on his shoulder.
"I think I'll enjoy that." He says.
"You're not the only one who was lonely." He adds.
"You missed me?" I say a little too happily.
He takes a second. Really letting me get rilled up.
"Of course." He says.
"That makes me happy." I say laying out on his couch.
He gently moves my legs, sits down, then places them across his lap.
He grabs one of my feet and runs his finger across it.
"Burn scars?" He asks.
"Some sort of acid. It didn't hurt too bad." I reply.
He furrows his brows.
"It was a treatment by Orochimaru. It helped... I think." I say wiggling my toes.
"You should've seen what happened to my foot in this trap..." I stop suddenly getting an uncomfortable feeling.
I pull my feet off of him and hug him.
"Sorry I just need to know you're real." I say into his shoulder.
He moves me to be sitting on his legs sideways. My legs resting on the couch.
He brushes my hair off of my face.
"What have you been up to?" I say trying to change the subject.
"Other than worrying about you... nothing really." He says.
"Can I see your face?" I ask my hands twisting in nerves.
He smiles and removes his headband. Then he pulls down his mask. It sits in a rumpled band on his neck.
He gives his hair a ruffle then looks at me.
I rest my hands on his face smiling.
I trace his features with my fingers.
"I see why you wear a mask. You'd be far too distracting on missions." I say.He shakes his head and smiles.
"And good teeth too! How is it you're not turning away dozens of marriage proposals a day?" I say.
"Are you trying to give me a sign?" He says.
I try to say something funny but just yawn.
I lean forward and kiss his cheek. It's soft.
"Thank you. For everything." I say to him.
"You did more work than you give yourself credit for." He says
I crawl off so he can stand up.
"Try and get some sleep. I'll wake you in the morning." He says handing me a blanket.
