My body cages a storm
Ribs held together with bits of string
Smiles drawn taught masking the grimace underneath
Lightings charges the air around me
Humid and heavy
Fingered hands welding claws
Headphones held tightly over my ears
Teeth clenched
Suppressing the song
Chest vibrating with that twisted energy
Shove it down
Hold it in
My mind is not a made prison
The one I built falters with every step
Stomach churning
Thoughts whisper
Something brushes the surface
And it explodes
exposed
The music blares into the silent classroom
Hands scramble to turn it off
The noise, the noise
The silence
I zip up my jacket
Lurking under the fabric
Covered and so cold
Huddled in my desk
Slouched down
Let the whispers be
I shout in my head
The noise, the noise
Headphones back on
Tight to my ears
Silence
Clouds roll back
My prison becomes glass
Still exposed
But silent
I am all they wanted
