Today is Yewon's birthday and she's going to do a pijama party with her friends.

Yewon's mother was so excited – Unlike Yewon, who was happy for her birthday and mad at fate because she would get her fated string .– she was clapping and smiling.

Now, Yewon is setting her room for the four girls whom she was  going to pass the night with.

Yewon's pov:

Today, I'm finally going to turn nineteen, – and get my string, though I don't want to – and I'm going to go with the girls to a Cafeteria and then somewhere else.

They didn't tell me where we would go next, so my curiosity grew by seconds.

I took my bag and put my phone, earphones, charger, and money.

I then headed to the door –. Mom, i'm leaving! –. I shout.
– Don't come so late and be careful! –. She shouts back.

She's happier than me. How is that possible?

I grabbed my house keys and exited.

– SURPRISE!
– AH! –. I jump, putting a hand on my chest.

That jerks who I call friends laughed at me.
I glared at them, and they stiffed a laugh.

I rolled my eyes and locked the door.

– You'll kill me someday due to a heart attack –. I say.
– Happy birthday, Yewon-ah~ –. Yuqi, one of my best friend, says, hugging me.
– Uri Yewon is older –. A-young faked a cry, joining the hug.
– Thanks –. I say, out of breath –. Let me go, will you? I'm suffering here.
– Sorry

They let me go, and I sighed.

Yuqi is already nineteen, and her string was visible as she bonded with her soulmate a long ago while A-young is eighteen, but she got her string in her birthday. She is bonded with her soulmate, and i swear someday i'll hit her if she keeps talking about her soulmate.

– Let's gaur! –. A-young says, raising an arm.
– My god. A! I know you have an Australian boyfriend, but don't let his English influence you! –. Yuqi says.
– Yeah... what happened to our old A-young? The one who hated English and said that she wouldn't date any boy who spoke English? –. I ask.
She glares at us –. You are so mean.
– Thanks.
– Of course.
– Let me tell you, Jake is so nice, and I love his accent. – A-young crosses her arms over her chest.
– Aigo~
– Don't talk because you've got a Japanese accent –. I say to Yuqi, making her gasp dramatically –. Don't look at me like that. Haru is influencing his Japanese to you too. So you're both in the same boat.
– Hope you get a Chinese soulmate so that you also get influenced by his accent –. Yuqi says.
– No thanks. – I say –. I don't need a soulmate.

They roll their eyes.

–  Remember that Kino was like that too until he met his soulmate –. A-young says.

Kino is her older brother. He's twenty-one years old now and is also bonded to a cute girl. – unlike him, because he's a bit emo. But anyway. –

– Keep dreaming –. I roll my eyes –. Let's go before there aren't empty seats near any window –. I change the topic.

They nodded, and we started to head off to our favourite café.

– Yewon-ah –. A-young calls me. I look at her –. You know that when you get your string, you can't push away whoever is on the other side of it.
I sigh –. I'll do it for the sake of both. I don't need a soulmate, and I don't want to get a string.
– Just because this happened to your parents doesn't mean it will happen to you too.
– I know, but... –. I don't finish my sentence as I don't know what to say.

What am I supposed to say? That fate makes mistakes, too? That i'll get hurt in the end? That whoever is fated to me will hurt me too?

They looked at me with that expression that I hate to see – Pity–. They are piting me and I hate that.

So, instead of finishing my sentence or say any excuse, I fastened my pace.

– Yewon!
– Wait for us!

They both rush to my side.

– Slow down, will you? –. Yuqi asks.

But I don't stop or slow down, I keep walking – or running – to our destination.

When we arrived, my friends catched their breath.

We entered and sat near a window.

I love sitting next to the window because I can see what's happening outside. I like seeing people passing by, kids running and laughing... I love seeing people being happy.

But my happiness doesn't last long as I remember that I won't ever be happy.

– Yewon? –. A-young calls me.

I snap out of my thoughts and look at her, her expression showing nothing but worry, Yuqi mirroring her worry.

– Yes? Sorry, I was thinking about something –. I say.
– I asked you what you wanted to drink –. A-young says –. It's my treat today.
– Woah! A, you're so generous today, uh? –. Yuqi says, making the latter laugh.
– Yoon and Isa will come? –. I ask.
– They won't –. Yuqi says –. They have practice today too.
I sigh –. When will they rest? I understand their in the middle of promotions for " Cheeky Icy Thing," but they have to rest from time to time.

They look down.

Yoon and Isa are my best friends, too.
Yoon is the oldest in our group with twenty years old while Isa is eighteen.

They found their soulmates as well, leaving me the only one who hadn't.

But why am I worried about it?

I'm not interested in this topic, so why is a part of me still hopeful? Why is that part of me hoping for happiness? To meet my so-called soulmate?

I shake my head, nevermind.

– I want an ice americano –. I say.

They look at me with a " seriously?" look.

– Really? –. A-young asks.

I nod my head.

– We are starting winter, and you want to drink an ice americano? –. The girl asks me again.

I nod again.

– Whatever. I'll get you something hot. I don't want you to catch a cold in your birthday.
– Then, why the hell did you ask me? –. I ask.
– No cursing –. Yuqi says.

I roll my eyes and A-young leaves to get our drinks.

I decided to make her birthday earlier than planned because I thought that it'd get either bored or long.
