4| Lies and more lies

Today is Friday, and Yewon is going to KOZ entertainment for the meeting.

Yewon's pov:

I told the security guard that I was invited and I showed him the e-mail that they sent me to enter.

The guard looked at me judgingly, but let me enter.

Now, I'm in Zico's office with him.

– So... your name is Kim Yewon, right? –. He asks.
I nod –. Yes.
– And... as you said in your e-mail, you haven't found your soulmate yet, and your birthday is on January. Am I right?
I nod again –. Yes.

He nods and looks something on his computer.

– So... as you know, you are the lucky fan. That means that you were chosen to participate in Myung Jaehyung's new show.

I feel that he's going to tell me something that will make me mad.

– But... You won't participate with Jaehyun ssi –. He says.
– What?–. I ask, not believing his words.
– You'll participate with Lee Felix from Stray kids instead of Jaehyun.
– Why?

So... they lied to me, saying that I was going to be Jaehyun's partner, when the truth is that I'll be Felix' one?

He nods.

I scoff –. Are you kidding me? You lied to me! You said that I was going to go with him! And now, you make me come here to tell me that I'm not going with him and that I'm not going to meet him today?! –. I shout –. Are you out of your mind?!
– Calm down, Yewon ssi...
– How? You freaking lied to me! Now, I'm going to participate with another idol! –. I sigh and calm down a bit -. At least, tell me the reason.
– Well... the recording starts in his birthday and, as it's an important day. He'll celebrate it with his family and friends. So... he won't record the first day but the second.
– And? –. I cough. – I can still participate with him.
– Yewon ssi. He'll participate with his soulmate –. He states.
– How is he going to find his soulmate in a week?
– The string connects to the other person even though the other's birthday hasn't passed. Though the string is only visible to the one whose birthday has passed –. He explains.
– Ah, really? But the string is still visible to everyone, no?
– How can you say that, Yewon ssi?! Don't you know anything about the fated string? Don't you know how soulmates work? –. He asks.
– No –. I firmly say –. I don't know anything because I don't believe in " soulmates," and fate is fake.
He sighs –. Yewon ssi. That's not true. When you get your string of fate, you'll find your soulmate. A person that understands you, that is your other half. And fate is real. You just have to believe in it.

I scoffed.

Yeah... as if.

There's no one who can understand me and, mostly, be my other half.

– And... the string can be blue, yellow, red, or pink. It depends on how the person felt in their birthday –. He says.
– I don't care.
– You have to know anyway –. He says –. Pink is for the ones that had a relationship before the string and are still dating. Yellow for the ones who were happy. Blue for those who were sad. Red is just the common colour, for the ones who believed in the red string of those stories since a lot of time.

I told him that I didn't care, didn't I?

Why the hell is he explaining me this?

– As I said. I don't care –. I say.
– The string will guide you to your other half, Yewon –. He says –. You can run and try to hide from it. But you can't stop seeing the string, and you can't break it. Because it's your fate.
I let a dry chuckle –. Yeah... and how am I supposed to find him? With Google maps? Kakao maps?
– No –. He shakes his head –. The string guides you as it's connected to your soulmate as well the other person's with you. If you don't follow it and keep being as you are, it'll hurt you in the worst way until you follow it.

So... this string hurts you if you don't follow it?

Tsk. I don't believe it.

– Whatever. The thing is... that I'll be Felix' partner, right? –. I changed the topic.
He sighs and nods –  Yes.
– Good –. I stand up –. My job is done then. Have a nice day, Zico-nim –. I walk toward the door.
– Wait –. He says.

I sighed and looked at him.

– Yewon ssi. Please, think about it. Having a soulmate is the best thing that can happen to you. Fate doesn't make mistakes. Trust in it.
– Ok... whatever you say, Zico-nim. Now. Bye~
– Kim Yewon –. He calls me, making me stop again –. Listen to me. You won't regret it.
– Aha...
– I'm serious –. He says –. Jaehyun's birthday is next week. If you are his soulmate, you won't be able to see the string, but he will. And I'm sure he'll cling to you, so don't push him away if he does.
– I don't want a soulmate, and there's not a chance of me being his soulmate. We're different. –. I say.
He sighs –. Do whatever you want. But don't tell me I didn't warn you.
– Ok... may I leave?
– Yes. Have a nice day, Yewon ssi, see you next Monday.

I bowed to him and left.

Nonsense. It made a mistake with my parents.

" Soulmate is the best thing that can happen to you. Your soulmate is the only one who can understand you and be your other half."

That's nonsense too. No one will ever understand me or be my half. My " soulmate" won't be the one for me. He'll probably just use me for his own benefit as my ex did.

I'm kinda jealous of my ex.

His name is Jung Hae-jun, and he is two years older than me.

He used me for two years and then made me realize that no one will understand me, that I'm ugly as a potato and that I don't deserve to have a soulmate, as I'll just make him unhappy.

Yeah... I know all of it were lies, but I couldn't stop thinking that, maybe, he didn't totally lie.

He cheated on me with his soulmate and lied to me, saying that he didn't get a string.

One day, he came to my house to break up with me in the worst way that he knew.

Breaking me.

At that time, I was sixteen, and he was eighteen. He was one of the people who gets their fated string at that age.

So I hate him so much.

And I despise soulmates so much as it's fate's fault that many couples break up.

Now... since when are we in December?

Ah.... no! We are still in November, but next week starts December.

Of course! Because the fourth is Jaehyun's birthday!

How could I forget that?

I shook my head and went home.
