Chapter 21 - Azazel's help

That answer from Fujimai is like a bomb that was dropped out of nowhere making him react in disbelief when he heard that. So, in response to that, he quickly waved his hands in a slight panic, trying to comprehend what he just heard.

"W-W-Wait! What do you mean about his daughter? What happened to her? Didn't the Himejima Clan take care of her in their custody?"

However, the response he gets from Fujimai is a shaking of her head to deny his question and confirm what exactly happened to Akeno, the daughter of Baraqiel and Shuri.

"From what I've heard, Akeno was kicked out from their clan at age 10 and I believe she now trying to live on her own."

"Why would they kick her out—ah!"

That made him confused but when Azazel is about to finish his words, he suddenly realizes the reason why Akeno is being kicked out and that earns a nod of confirmation from Fujimai as she then continues.

"I believe you know the reason and it is what we've thought too. You already know what kind of clan Himejima are and they have a very strong hatred or disdain towards the supernatural. They even kicked Himejima Shuri because she had an affair with Baraqiel, so I don't think they can't do that to their daughter."

Azazel nodded while letting out a sigh as he agreed with what Fujimai had said.

"Well, I can't disagree with that but I think it's only the old geezer or boomer who has those feelings inside them. I think the younger generations of them can tolerate them and I mean, there's Tobio who is their descendant albeit he is exiled, and someone like Suzaku. However, it still stupid and old mindset they have."

He shakes his head in disbelief and disgust at how the old people's minds in the Himejima Clan worked since they're too stubborn and prideful which will lead them to their doom if that's not being handled. Azazel just hoped Suzaku would be the next clan heir and reform the Himejima into the better one and maybe get rid of those old fools.

'I hope Suzaku will do a good job of restoring or fixing the mess all those old geezers did to the Himejima.'

He let out a small sigh before hearing Fujima's voice as she said something.

"That's why I will need your help to find out about her whereabouts, Azazel-san. Before coming here, we of Toujou family, had already guessed some of the promising places that have a high chance of Akeno being there. However, it is still a "guess", so you can say that we are still unsure about it yet."

"Well, I can lend you a hand to help with that since Akeno is Baraqiel's daughter and someone that I can consider a family aside from Vali. I wouldn't be a good uncle if I didn't help her and her parents also could be considered my friends, especially Baraqiel, since he's one of the best friends I had."

Hearing the words "had" from Azazel made Fujimai slightly raise her eyebrows in suspicion. The way he worded it was as if Baraqiel and Azazel weren't friends anymore or something else. Curious of that, Fujimai then asked him politely with a spark of curiosity.

"What do you mean by that, Azazel? Did something happen between you and Baraqiel-san?"

Being asked like that made Azazel wasn't certain what he should tell her. However, he also knows that hiding or lying about it would be no good, and being honest is the best choice he has right now. That's why he let out another sigh while putting Gendo's pose with a grim expression.

"...he's dead."

Those words coming out from him made Fujimai's eyes blink as she was surprised before she said, "Huh?" to Azazel and tried to ask him more with a horrified expression.

"A-Are you certain of that... Azazel-san?"

"We are. It's already gotten through a fast-check before doing a thorough and solid investigation. Though, even if we did that fast, we already knew the culprit that should be suspected and responsible for that."

"...Who is the culprit?"

As she asked Azazel with curiosity and sympathy, the black-haired man then put on his serious expression while giving Fujimai the answer she wanted.

"It's Himejima Clan."

Hearing who is behind Baraqiel's death is a slight surprise to her. Despite not knowing about Baraqiel that much, since she and her family only know about Shuri, that revelation made her surprised and couldn't believe the culprit is someone from Shuri's family; no, more like she couldn't believe how Himejima would be so low.

She knew the Himejima hates Baraqiel and Shuri because of their affair but to do something like this is unbelievable. However, she also remembers that it's the kind of family that initially wants Shuri to die, only to be prevented by her beloved younger daughter Shirone who saves her before everything goes too late.

Azazel put his face down, feeling heavy when thinking about everything that just happened right now as he continued.

"I always knew the Himejima Clan don't take kindly about the whole supernatural, especially with Baraqiel's case... however, I didn't believe they would be so low to trying targeting Akeno."

"I think... they want to eradicate the whole family that much, Azazel-san."

What she said caused Azazel to let out a "Huh?" with confusion as she continued what she told him.

"Not only do they want to try to kill Akeno, and already succeed with Baraqiel-san, but... back then... they also want to kill Shuri. If not for Shirone-chan's help, she won't be able to survive and be alive today..."

The mention of Shirone made Azazel smile happily and in relief, since she was the one who had to save Shuri from her being in a near-death state. It also made Azazel somehow proud of Shirone, as if he is like her uncle or something, despite they're not even family or related to each other.

"I see... she done something amazing again, isn't she?"

Fujimai gives him a nod of agreement with a smile that mirrors Azazel.

"Yes, Azazel-san. Though, regarding my request, could you somehow help me with it?"

Azazel's smile widened as it turned into a grin in response to what Fujimai had said.

"Of course I am. This is also related to my current problem, so we kill two in one. Let's discuss more about it. Okay?"

She nodded at the positive response from Azazel that made her happy. Since their problem is practically in the same category, they can make it work efficiently and not do anything unnecessary, especially with how Fujimai knows what they do will get better because of her husband and Shirone also doing their parts.
