"Brianna I don't care about him, so why would I go to his birthday party?" I asked, making my way into the kitchen to clean the dishes we had just made after eating lunch. Ever since Leiya's arrival earlier this morning, we had all gathered in the living room to eat the lunch that Jermaine prepared for us, which was his signature Catfish recipe and fries. During our lunch, Brianna had asked us all to come to that Darron boy's birthday party later today, and it just wasn't something I felt comfortable going to. After last night, it felt odd, especially with the way I had been thinking of Brianna. I didn't consider him competition at all, because he wasn't touching me in that aspect, however, it was obvious on both ends that we weren't too fond of one another. For me to dislike him, and still show up, would look extremely embarrassing on my end.

"You care about me though," Brianna whined, sitting up from Leiya's lap on the couch in the living room. "And I don't want to go if you guys don't, it's like awkward." I looked at her and shrugged, "Then it's settled. You're not going." Brianna groaned, falling back into Leiya's lap like a frustrated child. Jermaine placed his plate on the coffee table. "I mean," he started, turning to look at Brianna. "I'll go, but only because it's the first party of the season. Everyone always pops out at Greek parties anyway. Let's be real, those are usually the biggest plays of the year JK and you know it."

"Yeah, Jer is right," Leiya said, stroking Brianna's head as she looked at me from across the counter. "It'd be wrong of us to not slide with Bri to her first party of the year. She's the youngest, it's the least we could do." I sat down the spatula I was cleaning and looked at my two friends over the countertop with an irritated glare. I had made it very obvious to Jermaine that I was feeling Brianna earlier this morning before she woke up, and Leiya and I spoke about her not trusting Darron with Brianna so I didn't appreciate them backdooring me. If anything, they should've been discouraging it, but here they were, feining for a party and making me look boring and bitter.

"I'm saying!" Brianna shouted, displaying her hands to her sides with excitement. "I know you might not like him, but honestly, y'all don't have to even speak. I just will feel much better knowing you're somewhere close." Brianna looked at me over the counter, those same hopeful eyes almost begging me to succumb to whatever she needed or wanted from me. I could see Leiya and Jermaine share a glance at one another out of my peripheral before sighing, "I'll go, but I promise you if he says something I don't like-"

"He won't!" Brianna said, springing to her feet and coming to me in the kitchen. I turned to face her and immediately she hugged me, her small frame fitting perfectly in my embrace. "I promise, he won't even get near you." I looked down at her and just smiled, completely ignoring Jermaine and Leiya making kissy faces at the two of us from across the room. Brianna slowly pulled away before turning to Leiya, the two of them stopping immediately and looking back at Brianna with innocent faces. "Oh my gosh, girl I don't know what to wear!"
