HOUSTON, TX
Brr, Brr, Brr.
I sighed, rolling over on my side, attempting to escape the dreaded sound that had been plaguing me all night.
Brr, Brr, Brr.
Somehow the sound grew louder and eventually sounded like more than just a ringtone, but instead a siren of some sort. I groaned, stretching out my hand and going for my phone on my dresser. I pulled the small metal box from its post and drew it close to my face before allowing my eyes to flutter open, seeing the soft light exuding from it. As I stared at the screen, I saw zero notifications, only the time and my dying phone. "Bro," I uttered to myself, setting the phone back down out of irritation before laying back down. I snuggled back into my original position in bed, my hands sliding beneath the pillow as I lied my head on top of the soft cushion.
Brr, Brr, Brr.
"Damn okay," I cursed, finally sitting up. I went to check my phone, but again, no notifications.
Brr, Brr, Brr.
I looked around, the sound continuing viciously as I searched about my bed. The sound grew louder, and it became more obnoxious. I moved my hands about my bed, following the sound, and suddenly my hand fell on something hard beneath my sheets. My brows furrowed in confusion as I removed another phone from beneath the covers, pulling it into my eyes view. My eyes slowly adjusted, and I recognized the familiar junk case.
This was Brianna's phone.
"Bae," I groaned, sighing with irritation as I called for her, "Your phone blowing up, I think it's an emergency."
I waited for her to respond, but there wasn't one. Just complete and utter silence.
"Brianna?" I called into the darkness, scratching my head out of confusion, but still no response. I looked around my dimly lit room, thinking that maybe she was in the bathroom or something when suddenly the phone buzzed again. This time, instead of just trying to ignore it, I felt like it may have been something important for someone to be texting and calling her so frequently this late in the night. I felt a pit form in my stomach as I flipped her phone around, but I assumed it was probably just gas rather than nerves. Once I turned her screen around, powering the phone on, I was confused by what I had seen, which was multiple text messages from that no-good Darron.
"What the fuck?" I said, looking at the phone confused before looking about the room once more. Brianna told me she hadn't spoken to him since she told him she couldn't be his work partner, so what reason did he have to be texting her so late at night? It didn't take me any time to unlock her phone, put in her password, and go straight to their message thread. Almost immediately, I felt myself about to vomit in my mouth at what I had seen:
