After saying their goodbyes to Logan's parents and sister, Presley, Kendall and Logan found themselves on a flight to Kansas. The previous day had been filled with warmth and acceptance, leaving both of them hopeful for what was to come. Yet, there was still a flutter of nerves in Kendall's stomach as they neared his hometown.
"You're quiet," Logan said, gently nudging Kendall's arm.
Kendall turned to him, smiling softly. "Just thinking. It's been a while since I've been home. And now... well, this is a pretty big deal."
Logan reached over, taking Kendall's hand in his. "It is. But your parents love you. They're going to be thrilled, I'm sure of it."
Kendall nodded, Logan's reassurance calming him somewhat. "Yeah, you're right. Let's do this."
The flight passed quickly, and soon they were driving through the familiar streets of Wichita, the town where Kendall had grown up. As they pulled up to the cozy house he knew so well, memories washed over him. His mom was already on the porch, her face lighting up the moment she saw the car.
"Kendall! Logan!" she exclaimed, hurrying down the steps as they got out of the car. She pulled Kendall into a tight hug, then did the same with Logan. "It's so good to have you boys here. Come on inside—your dad's on his way home, and I've got lunch ready."
Inside, the house smelled of home-cooked food, filling Logan with a sense of warmth and welcome. The living room was just as Kendall remembered it, cozy and inviting, filled with little touches of his mom's care.
As they settled around the dining table, Kendall's mom couldn't stop smiling. "You both look great. How's everything going with the band?"
"Busy as usual," Kendall said with a chuckle. "We've been working on some new music, gearing up for the European tour."
Logan nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it's been non-stop. But it's good to be back here for a bit."
Kendall's mom beamed, serving them generous portions of her famous lasagna. "Well, I'm glad you're both here. It's nice to have my boys under one roof again."
As they ate, the conversation flowed easily. They caught up on everything from the band's upcoming plans to little stories about life in Wichita. Kendall felt a growing warmth in his chest, surrounded by the love and comfort of home.
When Kendall's dad arrived home from work, he greeted them with a big smile and a firm handshake. "Kendall! Logan! Good to see you both. How's everything?"
"Good, Dad," Kendall replied, trying to keep his tone casual. But as the meal went on, Kendall knew it was time to share the real reason they had come.
Kendall exchanged a look with Logan, who gave him a small nod of encouragement. Taking a deep breath, Kendall cleared his throat. "Mom, Dad, there's something we wanted to talk to you about."
His mom's eyes widened slightly, a glimmer of curiosity in her gaze. "What is it, sweetheart?"
Kendall hesitated for just a moment before speaking. "Logan and I... we're together. As in, we're dating."
For a second, the room was silent. Kendall watched as his parents exchanged a look, processing what he had just said. But then, a wide smile spread across his mom's face.
"It's about time!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with delight. "Honestly, I was starting to wonder if you two would ever figure it out."
Kendall blinked, surprised by her reaction. "Wait, you... you're okay with this?"
His dad chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "Okay with it? We're thrilled, son. We've always loved Logan like he was one of our own. And seeing you two together... well, it just makes sense."
Kendall's mom reached over, placing her hand on top of his. "We've watched you grow up, Kendall. And we've seen the way you and Logan have always had each other's backs. It just took you boys a little longer to realize what we've known for ages."
Kendall let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding, a grin spreading across his face. "Wow. I didn't expect this. Thank you, both of you."
Logan smiled, feeling a wave of relief wash over him. "I can't tell you how much it means to hear that. We were a little nervous about how you'd take the news."
"Nervous?" Kendall's mom echoed, laughing softly. "Oh, honey, there's no need for that. We're just happy you're happy. Both of you."
Kendall's dad nodded in agreement. "Absolutely. We've always wanted what's best for you, Kendall. And if Logan's the one who makes you happy, then that's all we could ever ask for."
The rest of the evening was filled with even more warmth and laughter as they talked about their relationship, the band's future plans, and how everything had fallen into place. It felt like a weight had been lifted off Kendall's shoulders, and he couldn't stop smiling, knowing his parents were so wholeheartedly supportive.
The next morning, Kendall and Logan were sitting around the breakfast table with Kendall's parents when his brothers, Kenneth and Kevin, arrived. They were both actors, often away on projects, but had made the trip back home to see Kendall and Logan.
"Morning, everyone," Kenneth greeted, giving his mom a kiss on the cheek before plopping down in a chair. Kevin followed suit, grabbing a cup of coffee. "What's this big news we're supposed to hear?"
Kendall exchanged a glance with Logan, who gave him a reassuring nod. "Well," Kendall started, "Logan and I... we're together. Like, in a relationship."
Kenneth and Kevin both stared at their brother for a moment, processing the news. Then, Kenneth broke into a wide grin. "Well, it's about damn time! Seriously, I was wondering when you two would stop dancing around each other."
Kevin smirked, leaning back in his chair. "Yeah, I mean, everyone else could see it coming. Took you guys long enough."
Kendall laughed, feeling the tension ease. "Thanks, guys. I guess we just needed a little more time to figure things out."
Kevin nodded, but then his expression grew a little more serious. "We're really happy for you, Kendall. But, you know... the public can be pretty harsh, especially when it comes to something like this."
Kenneth nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it's not that we don't support you—we do, completely. But you know how people can be. We just want you to be prepared for what might come if you ever decide to go public with this."
Kendall appreciated their concern, knowing it came from a place of love. "Thanks, guys. We've talked about it a little. But right now, we're just focused on being happy together. If the public finds out, they find out. But we're not going to let that dictate our relationship. For now we try to explore this in our own time without the prying eyes of the public and see how we deal with it when the time is right."
Logan chimed in, his voice steady. "We're taking things one step at a time. We know what we're getting into, but for now, we're just enjoying being together."
Kenneth and Kevin exchanged a look, then nodded. "Fair enough," Kenneth said. "But just know we've got your back, no matter what."
Kendall felt a surge of gratitude for his brothers. "I know. And that means the world to me. To us."
The rest of the day passed in a blur of family time and shared stories. Over a nice meal that evening, the entire Schmidt family—plus Logan—sat together, laughing and reminiscing about old times. Kendall couldn't have asked for a better response to their news.
As the sun set and the evening came to a close, Kendall and Logan made their way back to the airport, content and reassured by the love and acceptance they had received from both of their families. They were ready to face whatever the future held, knowing they had the unwavering support of the people who mattered most.
